Mamula Island by Banyan Tree

Many negative comments about Mamula Island Resort come from people who have never actually visited, judging it solely by its past as a prison. In reality, the resort does not overlook this history. It’s respectfully remembered through a dedicated museum and open days that invite reflection. From the moment we arrived, the staff were exceptional: warm yet impeccably professional, making us feel genuinely cared for. They went above and beyond, helping us organise private events and seamlessly planning our entire holiday. I have never felt so well looked after in any other 5-star hotel. The design is breathtaking, with rooms that are both elegant and comfortable, offering stunning views in every direction. The food was consistently excellent, and the wine list well curated, with something to suit every palate. Mamula is a rare combination of beauty, history, and hospitality, an experience I would recommend without hesitation.

From start to finish, our experience at Mamula’s sun deck was flawless. Since Mamula is a private island, a boat was sent to pick us up and bring us over — already a special start to the day. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Sara, our kind and attentive waitress, who made us feel right at home. Also we had an amazing bartender Dru. The cocktails were fantastic, the food was delicious, and the service throughout was exceptional. Every staff member we met was friendly, attentive, and communicative. We were even given a tour of the island and the beautiful rooms, along with fascinating stories about Mamula’s history. It’s rare to find a place where everything feels this perfect — but Mamula truly delivered. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a mix of luxury, history, and outstanding hospitality.

Amazing stay at Mamula, one of a kind hotel experience. Staff, food and island were incredible! Looking forward to visiting again. Check reviews closely, many are fake due to unhappiness about the island being a hotel. There is a thoughtful memorial to the islands time as a prison which reflects the consideration that went into the renovation.
