We came here on a Saturday with just me and my family (4 people). First off, we arrived at about 6.00pm and there wasn't anybody to guide us until we found our way inside ourselves. We checked in and we chose dinner. To be honest they do lack a bit of variety in their set menus but the food paid up for it. We had the fried fish with tartar sauce (my personal favourite), the nasi goreng rice (not the best nor wost), their soup which was quite a unique flavor, and the seasonal fresh fruit platter. Our main aim was honestly worshipping the kirivehera temple and I must say that the staff was really committed towards serving our dinner quickly for us to get to our joruney fast. And the distance from the hotel to the temple was another reason we loved the place because it was really convenient. The rooms were absolutely spacious. It had three beds, a massive toilet and even a little balcony outside to relax. Everything was very much hygienic but I personally feel like the tiny compartment in the washroom to bathe is a tad bit too small for my liking, but it wasn't that big of a problem. Sheets were a bit dusty but that was probably because it had been inside the cupboard for a while. The pools were massive but it needs to be a bit more cleaned. Honestly the interior architecture is so beautiful. Very elegant and classy. For breakfast we got 3 English breakfasts and 1 sinhala breakfast. The English breakfast had a cheese omelette (which was way too salty), a sri lankan style omelette, grilled tomato, cucumber and sausage (can be opted out for bacon instead, according to your preference). Sinhala breakfast had milk rice and string hoppers along with a lot of other condiments. If I were to pick one I'd say both of them could be a bit improved but I liked the sinhala breakfast better. I must mention just how amazing their croissants were. Probably the best I've ever had after the ones I had which was a few years back in dubai. So, overall the place was absolutely beautiful, the staff was great, and the food was really good but could be a bit improved. It was one relaxing moment for me and my family. I'm pretty sure that if you go during the season you'd have a better experience food wise at the buffet. Finally, I give it 5 stars although it has a few improvements to make. Definitely coming back again!
We stayed at Mandaram Rosen Kataragama in April 2025. Overall, it was a nice and peaceful place to stay near Kataragama. Our room was big and clean, and the bathroom was also clean and in good condition. However, the hotel looks a bit old now and needs some renovation, especially because the price is quite high. We noticed that some guests got welcome drinks, but we didn’t. That was a bit disappointing. The swimming pool was very nice, clean, and well looked after. We stayed with bed and breakfast. The breakfast buffet was good. The food was tasty and they kept refilling it, which we liked. Mandaram Rosen is a good and quiet place to stay with nice service, but they should improve the facilities to match the price.
Terrible service. Bags took nearly two hours to be sent to our room since arrival. It took an hour for a baby cot to be set up in our other room. Food is below average. Rooms are spacious. Location is convenient to visit Kataragama temple.
