Mandarin Hotel Guangzhou

Nice hotel. Top floor room is classy. Can tell this is an old hotel but nice nevertheless. But I give it 3 stars only because of front desk staff attitude is quite bad.

I don't know what Mandarin hotel the positive reviews were staying in, but the one that I and my touring colleagues are staying in is foul. Lobby smells of damp, the room ceiling is covered in mold, the window doesn't close because there is no handle, the bed has no topper and is uncomfortable, the walls are stained and the breakfast is a very shoddy collection...with that damp musty smell of the lobby in which it is located. Horrible. Avoid.

I'm currently staying here and in total will have been here two weeks when I leave on Monday... I do not understand the good reviews as this place is damp, smelly and cockroach infested. I had a cockroach in my room and it took 3 attempts for the staff to get rid of it over two days!! Just had breakfast now and a colleague had a cockroach run over his table as he ate....it says it has a pool and sauna but it's all closed and not accessible it's just to keep the shoddy 4 stars it has outside to the public. Wouldn't recommend staying here. You can't expect much English anywhere in China so don't come expecting it here at the hotel. My room is damp, noisy housemaids. This is my 2nd trip to China, last time I did 3 months and this time 2 months so I know what to expect, but the cockroach problem is a pure sign of what this place is like I'm afraid!
