On our first cruise out of Buenos Aires a few years ago, we decided to try something different, instead of the usual American style hotel, and give ourselves a chance to learn a little Tango while we were at it. We found this hotel online. It's in an older area of tiny streets and ornate, sometimes dusty, doorways. The first glimpse was a little intimidating as the street level doors open onto a foyer and steep staircase. But then it got better and better. It's a beautiful hotel inside. With a combination of artistry covering the walls that ranged from Art Deco (I thought) to ornate wrought iron staircases. It appears to be two buildings joined with what might have once been an interior courtyard. And there was a roof top terrace, with a hidden away dance studio at the top and two dance floors at the ground level. The staff were friendly and inviting and spoke way better English then my Portuguese (non existent). Some rooms didn't have windows, because they once looked into the courtyard and it's not sparkly new that a Hilton would be, but then it's a Tango Hotel. The Tango was a revelation for those who have only danced the American and European versions. The teachers tailored each session to the skill level of the individual dancers. Some obviously superb and others (us) absolute beginners. We learned in a mere four days enough to impress out shipmates once the cruise started. The hotel served breakfast, which was sufficient, be aware it's known for it's dancing, not it's cuisine. But there were plentiful good restaurants within walking distance and we, although not brave, felt quite at home wandering the neighbourhood to find them. A word to the wise, there is only one spice apparently, in Argentina and that is salt. So if you like anything else, take your own. And you should like beef and more beef and maybe a little pollo. Enjoy!
It's not a very attactive barrio, and it's not a very attractive hotel - at first sight. But when you enter the hotel: woah. As if you'd become part of a movie, playing in Belle Epoque and featuring Tango. One important notice: Ask for a room with windows and space - there are some terrible rooms in this hotel. And one teardrop: The breakfast is poor. Not to forget: There are Tango-classes directly in the hotel almost every day - the breakfast-room is one of the dance-floors. Ask for Claudio, the Tango-teacher, he's the man. Last not least: The prices are not high.
My friend is staying here So I don't have much to say about the customer service but the location is really good and the hotel is beautiful
