It's a good place, a blast from the past. If you've seen the movie "Blow" it looks like a hotel out of that.

The hotel staff was not accommodating and had no contingency plan for cleaning under the circumstances. We were there from Thursday to Monday and naturally, there was sand in the floor of our room that we couldn’t get removed. We ended up having to sweep it up with a towel. The toilet was stained on the side of the tank and there was a stain on the lamp in the room that looked like someone vomited on it and it was never wiped down. We requested beach towels from the front desk which we had to sign out. We were later told that the towels would be ruined and that we would be charged $15 per towel to replace them. We flew from Arizona and so, we did not pack beach towels because pictures and amenity descriptions of the resort indicated that the beach front location was a significant component of what the hotel had to offer. We assumed that towels would not be an issue. We were charged $27 dollars a day for a “resort fee” on top of the price of the room for four nights and saw no value in that fee. If the hotel is going to advertise the beach, pool bar, restaurant, etc., as amenities, they need to have a method of including it in your price. At the very least, they should be able to supply the guests with the option of having an umbrella and chair for the beach supplied instead of having to rent it from a 3rd party contractor ($35 per day). I would go back to South Padre Island in a heartbeat but I would absolutely not stay at this location. It is dated, dirty, and unaccommodating.

The resort is nice, however, our trip has been a nightmare. We arrived Friday night. Once we walked into out two-room suite, it smelt musty. We opened the doors and aired it out. The real issues started Monday morning. The rooms on either side of us are under construction. Bright and early Monday morning we woke up to jackhammers and hammering. Electricity to our kitchen was also turned off. Monday afternoon we spoke to the manager and it stopped. Tuesday morning we woke up to the same noises. We stayed out all day so we wouldn't have to listen to it. We came back around 4 and it was still going. Today, Wednesday, we woke up to the same thing. Only today, the water is off. When we spoke to the front we were informed the water was shut off for construction. No warning was given. For $500 a night, I expect to be able to be able to relax in my room without hearing the construction noises. The room shouldn't be rented out or the guest should be informed of the construction beforehand so they can decide if they want to stay or not. The staff is friendly, which is nice. Room service is not offered so you have to eat at the restaurant or go out. The food is good but overpriced. The hotel itself is nice and comfortable, with some areas needing more attention.
