I had a very warm welcome by the lady at reception, politely informed me about breakfast, evening meal and the entertainment that evening. The room was clean and comfortable with a sea view. All the staff were friendly and polite, I certainly hope to be staying again soon.

Clean, friendly, put 4stars on rooms and service as part of the time it is worth 4 stars, but at times due to no staff, and difficulty getting staff, and seemingly a lack of direction, for staff that don't seem to have a clue, it can fall short.same with rooms, some more than tired , and wouldn't take a lot to refresh, I don't get why they don't, such a change it would make. I don't want to put people off this hotel , even with what I have said I like the place, they have entertainment most nights or bingo, and food has been good, not a vastly stocked bar but sufficient for most. It is a good hotel, I wouldn't go anywhere else in Paignton, I would like to think if they saw this review, they could take some action, then it would be 5 stars.

The hotel has nice staff, good food and entertainment but this doesn't make up for the state of the building and rooms. Some single rooms were no bigger than a cupboard. The first room we were given was on the lower ground floor. The outside yard was level with the window, and we had a lovely view of a row of bins! The room smelt musty and damp as (we were told by other guests) most of the rooms down there did. We were moved to a room on the 1st floor, which had a side window looking over the park and a front window with blown glass in it with a sea view. Although a better room it was still very tired, the taps moved around the basin as you tried to turn them on, and the towel rail was loose. Others in our party had issues such as a bath panel falling off and a wardrobe rail collapsing dumping all the clothes in a heap.on the floor. At night, boy racers in cars and on bikes used the road in front of the hotel and the prom road as a race track. This kept a lot of guests awake as it was going on from around 10 pm until around 3 am each night. If we hadn't been on a coach trip, we would have checked out after one night. While we were there, we saw several independent guests do just that quoting broken beds awful rooms and even bed bugs!!!
