This resort was a great experience. It’s about 2 hours from the SJO airport and pretty remote from other tourist spots but close to other resorts and hotels. You really don’t have to leave the resort if you don’t want to, but you can if you choose. There is a small town about a 15-minute walk down the beach. Keep in mind that high tide is twice a day so plan accordingly. The food at Bar Ocho was good and fresh. In the small town nearby we found a good spot for the local fave of gallo pinto called Soda Bahia. A few doors down from that was Coco’s. They did not use fresh/real seafood. The gym at the resort was sufficient. It was small but had plenty of equipment. The buffet at Hacienda was good, but not really worth $40 per person. Although, the fresh juices were much appreciated. Overall, the Vacation Club was a great place to stay. I can’t forget the views of the mountains and ocean. The birds and wildlife are plentiful too. It felt clean, luxurious, safe, and the staff was hospitable and helpful. I can’t wait to go back!

We stayed here mainly to play at the golf course. We were very disappointed with the golf to say the least, it was about $700 for the both of us to play. The golf staff gave us no flexibility in choosing our golf sets, they were very rude, my set was completely a mess, none of the club heads were cleaned, my husband wasn't allowed to switch his driver from a flexible shaft to a regular shaft. We were not informed that the course was seeded the day before. The course itself is beautiful, scenery is unreal very tropical, course is challenging, lots of iguanas. They do give you a sleeve of golf balls. Hotel is 15 minutes from the city, if we were to do it again we would stay in Jaco and travel to the golf course. Food and drinks at the hotel were good for the most part, but pretty spendy. Would not recommend eating on site for dinner, the city restaurants are much tastier.

Safety Hazards, Negligence, and Poor Service At Vacation Club, Los Sueños, Costa Rica As a Titanium Elite member, I have stayed at countless Marriott properties worldwide. I have come to expect a baseline of safety, service, and professionalism—but Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort failed on all fronts. Blatant Safety Negligence – A Disaster Waiting to Happen During my stay, a coconut fell dangerously close to my child on the property. This was not an unpredictable act of nature—it was a completely preventable hazard. Any well-managed resort should be proactively maintaining its trees to prevent such incidents. That this basic safety measure is being neglected is unacceptable. To make matters worse, my daughter was physically hit by a swinging kitchen door in one of the resort’s restaurants. A staff member recklessly pushed the door open without any regard for who might be on the other side. They do bring hot items out of that kitchen door. The fact that this happened suggests a complete lack of training and awareness among staff when it comes to basic guest safety. Marriott Management’s Systemic Failure – Unresponsive & Indifferent Perhaps even more infuriating than the safety hazards was the complete lack of urgency and accountability from Marriott’s management. I reported these issues and was ignored for over monthS! Follow-ups resulted in nothing but templated, dismissive responses, that were both insensitive and unprofessional. There was no genuine acknowledgment of Marriott’s responsibility to ensure guest safety, nor was there ANY type of solutions provided. Beyond the glaring safety issues, the daily breakfast experience was a mess. Despite being included in my stay, I had to repeatedly inquired with staff about what was covered, dealing with incompetent and poorly trained employees who were clearly not aligned on resort policies. Los Sueños Marriott may look nice, but that does not excuse its blatant safety hazards, lack of staff training, incompetent management, and disregard for loyal customers. Having traveled extensively within Costa Rica, this resort offers an “Americanized” version of local tourism, far inferior to other Marriotts in Costa Rica and the plenty of other authentic offerings you can find in the area. If you value safety and basic service; do not waste your time staying here; Costa Rica has so much better to offer you outside of this poorly managed facility. Stay away to stay safe!
