Here are some of my experiences at this bed and breakfast: No air conditioning (the desk clerk, a tall young man, pretended to turn on the a/c, even though there clearly wasn't anything but heat, he then offered us a room with a/c, told us we'd have to pay more, and when further questioned, he admitted that that room didn't have a/c either), very low water pressure, the electricity went out 4 times, no food was left out for guests like most b&b's do, no fridge in rooms (I had to give staff my food to put in a fridge guests couldn't access), lots of stairs that made moving luggage difficult (staff did not offer to help at all), and more. The best part of the b&b was the ocean view from the dining room, but the two guest rooms I saw had mostly blocked views--not worth paying extra for. Despite it's great location, I will never stay here again.

Wow… I am still utterly disturbed by my experience at the Martine Inn. In my past decade of traveling to some of the most wonderful destinations around the world, never have I been to an establishment where I was treated with such hostility and sheer humiliation as a guest. Upon checking out of our room we approached the bell boy, a tall skinny young male in glasses named Nathaniel (I see a few other reviews here mentioning his disrespectful behavior). We shared with him that we were concerned as we had found black mold spread across the ceiling in the bathroom and that it posed a serious health risk to our family. He seemed extremely annoyed and had nothing to say other than “you can talk to the manager tomorrow” and asked for the keys. While we were handing him the keys he made a foul face at my 6 month old son who my wife was holding and said “your baby just spit up by the way”. I was ready to clean it up the small spot my baby left until he started getting angry about the situation saying “THIS IS YOUR BABY CLEAN IT UP”. I explained to Nathaniel that accidents happen and it was just a baby, yet he was still infuriated pointing at the minor spot demanding me to clean it up. I became very uncomfortable with Nathaniel’s rude behavior and felt the need to step outside when he threw me a napkin and said “CLEAN THIS UP LIKE A REAL MAN”. I was both shocked and confused and again tried to exit the building at which point he stood in front of the door blocking me from exiting the hotel. At this point I was genuinely concerned that he would get physical with me if I took another step towards the door as he was barricading it from me. I then said “I would like to leave your facility now, will you let me leave?” He responded, “NOT UNTIL YOU CLEAN UP YOUR BABY’S EXCREMENTS LIKE A REAL MAN”. Having had enough, I took my chances and walked towards the door ready to call the authorities on him and left the hotel. He followed me out the door sticking his head out yelling, “YOU’RE PATHETIC!”. My family dealt with a great deal of trauma that Nathaniel caused during our visit and I was ready to call the authorities as he seemed to be willing to put his hands on me out of anger. I was so shocked because he seemed extremely nice at first smiling at us, but unfortunately he showed us that he is indeed quite malicious. Now that we have left, we are going to be visiting our doctors to have our baby, my wife who is going through postpartum and myself, checked for any potential mold poisoning. Please be aware if you are booking at this establishment as I truly believe this hotel is uninhabitable and absolutely careless.

Unfortunately I had an absolutely AWFUL experience staying at the Martine Inn. It seems recently people have been having similar issues. I'll start by saying I travel a lot for work and leisure and NEVER have I been treated so poorly by a hotel. Especially by one that I would expect to rely on good customer service. My fiancée and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago and picked this hotel for it's beautiful decor and location. We had booked direct with the hotel and paid upfront for the room, including taxes. When we checked out we handed back the keys, there was no mention of any extra charges and we went on our way. However around 6 hours later a new charge popped up on my card I had used to pay for the hotel, for $152. I rang the Martine Inn later in the day to query this charge, assuming they would admit it was a mistake and refund it. However, I was told this was due to a 'night audit' of the room prices and they had not made enough money so had charged me an extra $152 to make up for it! I could not believe my ears! How on earth can you change the price of the room AFTER you've checked out...! I felt absolutely conned and tried reasoning with the lady I was speaking to but I was told she would be unable to help at all, and I had to contact the manager. I tried ringing back five times after this, to speak to the manager, to come up with a resolution. Twice I was hung up on straight away. Three times I spoke to someone else who said the manager was unavailable and that the managers hours were "sporadic". I must note, each call was at a specific time I was told I'd be able to speak to the manager... It is now obvious the Martine Inn thought they could charge me an extra $152 that would hopefully go under the radar and now that I've noticed and tried to reclaim my money they've made it impossible to contact the only person that can actually help... What an absolutely DISGUSTING way to treat a guest. I have now had to go through my bank to try and reclaim the money I was FRAUDULENTLY charged, which is just a tedious process. From reading other reviews and some research it appears the Martine Inn has a new owner, Dev Patel of Kidder Matthews. I'm not sure what their long term goals are, but I would assume it is to cut their customer service completely, try and rip off their guests and rely on their previous great reputation to keep new guests coming through the door. A real shame. Please avoid staying here if you can! There are plenty of other options in Monterey and Carmel where you will have a much more pleasant stay and be treated like you would expect.
