I was not looking forward to staying in this hotel, my company booked it. I was very impressed. I arrived late on Thursday night after a flight delay. It was close to midnight and everything was open, alive, and vibrant. I checked in and when right out to a restaurant just a few doors down and had a wonderful meal. The Bronze Owl bar in the hotel is so stylish and chic, with great cocktails and super friendly staff. There is a fantastic dessert shop just outside the hotel lobby called Sweet Graffiti that I visited twice during my stay, yummy! The front desk staff were great and my room was clean, comfortable and very quiet. I look forward to returning!
I have mixed feelings about this hotel. On its face, it’s a very elegant and lavish looking hotel. When you have a bellman and a door greeter, you have high expectations. Shout out to Hassan who is very friendly and personable and made us feel so welcomed like we were family checking in and checking out. He truly is amazing. Check in was okay. We arrived extremely early and had to wait which was expected but were able to check in a couple of hours early. We very much appreciated that considering that we were traveling with luggage and walking in hot and humid weather. That said, I’m also a very observant person. I noticed stains on the carpet and on some chairs which had me question if it was as elegant as I thought. Many small imperfections. But the hotel staff was very friendly and polite throughout. Now onto the night mare. We had our digital key and two physical keys. We try to open the doors using both options. Didn’t work. We went back downstairs, they reset the keys and came back up a second time, it didn’t work. We had to call the main line from upstairs and asked that someone come over and open the door for us. It was fine except we knew when we left and came back we had to go to the front desk and ask someone to let us in which ended up happening. We tried the new key they gave us a third time and it didn’t work so luckily security came with us to let us in. I think there’s an issue with the reader - room 1717. The rooms were okay. Coming straight from a Hilton Club property, it was a downgrade and the rooms could use a face lift. There were some imperfections that could use fixing and upgrades but overall it was okay and the convenient of being in Manhattan near the train was great. The hot water was perfect, plenty of towels, bathrobes and slippers included. Side, we ran late checking out and the lady was amazing and gave us the extra time.
Disappointing Experience — Not Up to Hilton Standards The hotel may be architecturally beautiful, but the service failed in a major way. After an unacceptable experience at The Bronze Owl (the restaurant attached to the property), I immediately reported the issue to the front desk. I was assured it was being “handled.” It wasn’t. The charge was quietly pushed through to my folio the next day, despite clearly communicating that we were not paying due to a total breakdown in service. This isn’t just a restaurant issue. It’s a hotel accountability issue. When guests bring serious service concerns to hotel staff, especially at a Hilton Curio Collection property, I expect resolution, not lip service. The hotel staff failed to follow through. That’s a direct hit to guest trust, service integrity, and brand standards. As a Hilton Diamond Member, this was not the level of professionalism or responsiveness I expect or pay for. The Martinique needs to take a hard look at how it supports its guests and whether it’s truly upholding Hilton’s reputation.
