Mataraci Konak

we stayed only for a night but were satisfied. we arrived late at night and unfortunately the room we booked was occupied or closed, but we were given a huge room on the top floor with a calm and quiet atmosphere around. it was very nice to be in this hotel. the breakfast was varied and delicious. everything was very clean and the staff was always ready to help.

Really good for the price. The location is amazing if you want to visit venues and historical places. The guests were nice and very helpful. They also offer transport and reservations for a nice Bosfor boat tour. The rooms are nice and very clean. They are equipped with AC, a small fridge, a small safe, sockets beside the bed, a TV we never used and basically everything you need. We had a personal bathroom in the room which was really good and had towels and the attention to detail was a pleasant surprise. There is free water and free coffee (pretty good coffee if you ask me) Cons: The breakfast was ok, not great variety - it was the same for all 5 days we stayed. You can enjoy dessert and juice, but the salads and everything else was mid. Again - really good for the price however. When we arrived there wasn’t much toilet paper left so the second day when we left the Konak for a full day the cleaning ladies forgot to replenish the toilet paper. It is true though - the second day we didn’t leave the room on time so the cleaning ladies also couldn’t come for room service, leaving us without toilet paper for 2 full days haha. When I told the reception they quickly offered us help. So not really a “con” but yeah… : If you choose this hotel and encounter any problem just go to reception- they will gladly help. The noise. This is the only real “con”. I didn’t mind it, but you can literally hear other guests walking on upper floors. If you are a very sensible person this might not be for you. Also, you can hear the prayers from the small mosque next to the Konak every morning and ?almost? every evening. I found it lowkey amusing and interesting given the fact that I visited Istanbul to learn more about the culture, but my girlfriend didn’t like it. All in all, great place. Highly recommend.

The family room in the basement wasn’t great. We’re world travellers so use to things being a bit poor so just got on with it but the basement room was quite ropey. - There are beetle insects everywhere all the time. - The damp & sewage smell in the bathroom was quite strong making the whole room smell the whole time. - The noise from above is loud at breakfast but we have a 4&5 year old so we are up early anyway. It’s also very loud at night when the staff are sitting in the reception. It was 23:45pm and very noisy. I was also woken up at 2am from the reception guy FaceTiming his girlfriend for over an hour. - The breakfast was ok ish, things were left out for a while. No milk alternative for our son so we’re bought some from the shop. - Lastly, The private taxi (arranged by hotel) we ordered didn’t tell us about paying extra for the under sea route from the airport resulting in an 1:5hr journey instead of a 25min journey which made us quite angry when we arrived, But still insisted in arguing with us?! - Would we stay again? No, not the family room. Would we recommend? No, not the family room. Location is the only positive thing about this place.
