The location is beautiful by the Bosphorus… but to get to the European side is tricky. Take a 15 bus to Uskudar then ferry … or take a METROBUS from 15 Temmuz Sehitler Bridge.
Our 3 day stay at Mateo was quite impressive. Dolmabahçe suite was clean, scenic and very pleasant. Staff was more than willing to do their best to please us. Courteous and caring demeanor of young attendant Çelebi is definitely worth mentioning. If you want to stay in the core of Beylerbeyi, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place to stay.
My 3 night experience in the mateo hotel was horrendous from the moment we arrived, the service was unprofessional and dismissive. The staff seemed uninterested in helping guests they were rude and very disrespectful, to make things worse when we came to check out we discovered charges of water and coffee that was brought to the room which no one told us was chargeable and when we refused to pay since we had no idea we should pay they threatened us to get the police. Rooms had no soundproof walls we could hear everything happening which limited our sleep. Overall, this hotel demonstrated not only poor service but also dishonest practices. I would strongly advise anyone considering staying here to think twice.
