Matfen Hall Hotel Golf and Spa

Superb spa experience. My partner and I both had lovely treatments. I had Thea doing my back massage, it was really relaxing and got all the tension out of my back. The spa area is small and intimate with no children, lovely pool area alongside steam room and sauna. Icing on top was the two course meal after, we had the smoked salmon followed by the crayfish salad. Recommend!!

Went as a surprise trip away for now fiances birthday and couldnt have expected better. Hotel is stunning and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Room was very good for the standard one as we were out and about in the hotel. We organsied wine tasting with Issac which was very relaxed and ejoyable in the private wine cellar. Finn in the 1832 was also great during our visit. Quiet but friendly and made us great cocktails throughout our stay. Both staff members made the stay excellent. The restaurant staff were also on par however i feel bad i dont recall the names. Cloisters was a great option for food in the stunning courtyard area and food was high quality. Spa very clean and well equipped. Cant promote this hotel enough to people as it is simply worth the drive and if you dont they can pick you up in Newcastle.

Just had Sunday lunch in the golf club house which was really good although the staff need to attend hospitality training school, utterly abysmal! The lady pointed at our table, no menus were given, two young chaps were useless, could not open a bottle of wine, had to take it back to the bar for the lady to open. He then could not pour the wine for tasting, we had two bottles of wine at £103 x 3 people and then wanted 12 1/2% service charge which I did not pay, overall why charge this? Card only, refuse cash, utterly appalling! I’m a local resident, you need to get some advice from Grantley Hall, this is NOT a 5 star hotel!
