The hotel is small and beautiful, nice pool almost empty all the time with amazing views to rice field. The restaurant is very romantic too. Really nice breakfast. The location is great, near to town center but far away enough from the noise. If you look for calm and relax is your place. Also we found a path next to the hotel that you can walk between more rice fields and some local houses, is not touristic and is magical (with 2 or 3 cafes). Also the staff was amazing all the time, Balinese people is the best people in the world. Thank you Mathis we will come back.
Our stay at the hotel was truly fantastic! The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The location was also perfect. But what really made our experience unforgettable was the incredible staff. Every single person we interacted with was exceptionally kind, warm, and welcoming. They went out of their way to make us feel at home and always had a smile on their face. You could genuinely feel that they cared about making our stay as pleasant as possible. We’re so grateful for their kindness and hospitality it truly made all the difference. We wouldn’t hesitate to come back, and we highly recommend this hotel, especially for the wonderful people who work there!
Mathis Retreat is a lovely hotel. It has a very peaceful atmosphere and the service is good. I have no complaints at all. The included breakfast had plenty of choices and was cooked fresh. During my stay there was a large ceremony blocking off the road into Ubud, an important funeral so we didn’t get to use the shuttle bus into town, however the driver provided took us to a lovely restaurant for dinner nearby and afterwards we did a long walk into town for some action! For a secluded and relaxing time in Ubud I would recommend. A few restaurants and Warungs nearby but this area is not suitable for those with mobility issues. An early morning walk along the street outside is lovely to see the traditional markets set up selling local produce, very interesting. I also did a nice walk in the nearby streets, it’s an old area and very green and scenic. My friend joined me and we had Sunday Brunch at the Ritz Carlton Hotel nearby. A wonderful splurge and definitely worth the money. An easy walk if you are nimble! Overall a nice stay.
