Since moving overseas many years ago I wanted to spend a night in my old neighborhood and booked a night at Mauad. It is a stylish, boutique hotel and quite affordable. The hotel is a converted casona and while the rooms are not big (again, it's boutique hotel) but they are very clean, the AC is strong and the complimentary breakfast is some of the best I've had. The best part is the staff and their customer service: Don Luis and Felipe were beyond nice and did everything to make us feel welcome. Highly recommended!
Nice hotel and very friendly staff but don’t believe in every picture you see or every statement you read. Very nice “hot tub” with cold water (not a complaint in this hot climate). There was no swimming pool. I guess they are expanding the hotel where the swimming pool used to be. There is also no dedicated parking. We parked on the street right in front of the hotel and this area is monitored by security and apparently safe but nether the less we chose this hotel because there was supposed to be parking.
Rooms are so tiny- there’s not even enough space for a standard size luggage. Bedding is not comfortable at all (and, of course, rather small as well). The pool is not functional and neither was the gym. On the brighter side of things: personnel was super friendly and helpful, breakfast was delicious and the location of the hotel is good. They also have a kind of cool jacuzzi on the roof, which can accommodate at least 6 to 8 guests I guess. This being said, the hotel is on the same price range as the major hotel chains (Sheraton, Crowne, …) and I fail to see what is his added value, even for us, who came to see more local places and avoid big chains. Would not recommend - might be better when their renovations are over.
