I recently stayed at The Maxwell Residences at SOHO in Puerto Vallarta, and while there were definitely some great aspects, a lot of things left me feeling like the place just didn’t quite live up to what it could be. It’s got potential, but there are some issues that made the stay less enjoyable than I hoped. What I Liked: • The Views: Absolutely beautiful. You can see the ocean and the city, and it’s the kind of view you hope for when you book a place like this. • Gym: Honestly, the gym was one of the best parts. All the equipment was brand new, and it had everything you could need for a solid workout. • Washer/Dryer & Kitchen: Having these in the unit was super convenient. It made the stay feel more comfortable and gave us the flexibility to cook and handle laundry easily. • Location: You can walk to pretty much everything you’d want to do in Puerto Vallarta. That was a huge plus. What I Didn’t Like: • Noise: This place is right on a really busy road. It’s loud—trucks, motorcycles, you name it. And the patio doors are more like glass panels with gaps, so all that noise comes right in. If you’re sleeping in the living room, I honestly don’t know how you’d get any rest. • Privacy & Light: The master bedroom has this weird glass wall facing the hallway. There are curtains, but it still doesn’t feel private, and light seeps in. Plus, you can hear people walking by like they’re in the room with you. • Housekeeping: We stayed for four days, and they only came once—even though they texted me asking when they should come. That follow-through was disappointing. • Pool Area Vibe: The pool and view are incredible, but the vibe was off. There were a lot of workers just standing around, kind of staring. We couldn’t even bring a gym water bottle up there without being told to take it back to our room, and it wasn’t exactly done politely. It just felt like we were being watched the whole time. • Pool Temperature & No Hot Tub: The rooftop pool isn’t heated, which made it almost unusable on the cloudy days we were there. There’s no hot tub either, so there’s no way to warm up or relax when the weather isn’t perfect. • Gym Atmosphere: While the equipment is great, it was oddly silent. They have speakers, but there’s no music. It felt kind of awkward being in there. • Construction: There was construction going on throughout the building, and fresh paint was being applied with no warning signs. I almost leaned into wet paint more than once. It just felt like guest comfort wasn’t a priority. • Bathroom Lighting: This is a smaller thing, but the lighting in the bathroom was weird. It didn’t really make sense and gave the space kind of an odd feel. • Communication Barrier: I totally understand we’re in Mexico, so I don’t expect perfect English, but the language barrier was tougher here than I’ve experienced at other places in Puerto Vallarta. I even saw a guy in the gym trying to defend himself from an accusation about breaking something using Google Translate. It just made interactions feel a little tense. Final Thoughts: I really wanted to love this place because it has so much potential. The views are incredible, the gym is fantastic, and the location is perfect. But the noise, privacy issues, the pool area vibe, and the little service and design issues added up. We actually ended up spending a lot of our time at a friend’s rooftop and another residence nearby because the atmosphere there was so much more welcoming. If the management can work on guest comfort—better soundproofing, clearer communication, heating the pool, and creating a more relaxed environment around the rooftop—it could be an amazing place to stay. But as it stands now, I’d say it’s good, but not quite great. Definitely some things to be aware of before booking.
I booked a room for five days. Then I cancelled the booking a day after. They agreed to reimburse me over the phone and I confirm the cancellation with visa via email. Then weeks later they message me about my arrival… so now they say I never cancelled. Even though I did. So they take all the money, refund nothing, and claim to visa that I never cancelled it. I even have the email proof of cancellation from Visa on the day I said I cancelled it. So I don’t know what their properties are like. But I know what kind of people they are. And, now everyone does.
