This was my first experience with a "Shared Hotel" & I have to say, it was a great 1! I cannot say enough good things about the Staff! Incredibly polite & helpful front desk. They were able to answer any questions we had & refer us to some good places. They even arranged Breakfast-to-go for us the morning we checked-out! The Restaurant & Bar Staff were on top of everything, very polite & always smiling! Thanks Armando & Jesus especially for taking care of us everyday. The Food at the restaurant is excellent. We had breakfast there every morning & dinner 1 evening & never had a single complaint about the food. Fresh & delicious. Great prices! The Property itself is absolutely beautiful. Very much a Jungle vibe with lots of beautiful palm trees & greenery. We really appreciated the Community Kitchen, with access to bottled water everyday. The Beaches are very clean & lots of places to spend the day laying around, which we did. Our shared female only dorm experience was a good 1! We had some extremely friendly people in our dorm, from all parts of the world. The beds were clean & comfortable with good privacy. The lockers are spacious. The room itself was very clean, but I do feel like the showers could be cleaner. They need a good scrubbing. But still, nothing that was a major issue. Overall l absolutely loved our stay at Mayan Monkey! I will definitely go back again. Next time Hubby & I will check-out 1 of the Jungle Rooms! Thank you Mayan Monkey for helping to provide an extremely relaxing vacation.

Okay, picture this: you're backpacking through paradise, right? You stumble upon this hostel that's not just a place to crash, but like, the heart of the whole adventure. Seriously, it's the best hostel ever. First off, the vibe is unreal. Think cozy common areas where everyone swaps stories, maybe a rooftop with hammocks, and definitely some fairy lights. The staff? More like your travel buddies who know all the hidden gems and throw the best impromptu parties. PEDRO! He’s the best But it's not just about the atmosphere. This place nails the basics too. Clean rooms, comfy beds, and maybe even a free breakfast that's actually good. It's the kind of spot where you plan to stay for two nights and end up extending for a week. You make memories and friendships that last way longer than your tan.

I stayed in an 8-bed all-girls dorm, but I ended up being the only one there, which was actually quite peaceful. The highlight of this hostel is definitely the atmosphere—there are friendly cats, dogs, and even ducks roaming around, which added a lot of charm. The dock and the view from it are absolutely beautiful, especially at sunset. Unfortunately, there were several downsides that impacted the overall experience. A security guard tried to hustle us for money just so we could drink a beer that we had purchased outside which was uncomfortable and unprofessional. The waitstaff were noticeably rude and dismissive if you don’t look foreign I know this has to do with gentrification and just expecting more tips from foreigners that they’ve become dismissive to their own. The water had a distinct and unpleasant smell, and ongoing construction meant that only a small section of the property was usable. It’s also quite far from downtown, so unless you're willing to rent a bike or golf cart, getting around is a bit of a hassle. Overall, while the setting is beautiful and the animals give it a unique touch, the service and infrastructure issues made it hard to fully enjoy the stay. With some major improvements, this place could be great—but it’s not quite there yet
