We stayed at Meliá Madeira and were very satisfied with our experience. We also stayed at another hotel on the island, but this one truly stood out. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Although we arrived early for check-in, our room was ready immediately. To our surprise, we received a free room upgrade, along with a lovely welcome gift of fresh fruit and chocolate in the room. The turndown service in the evening was a very nice touch and made our stay feel even more special. The pool area is well-maintained, with plenty of sunbeds, and the staff keeps everything clean and organized. There’s a great bar near the restaurant, and the breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of fresh and tasty options. Something we always appreciate at Meliá hotels is the use of Rituals products – such a nice detail that adds to the comfort of the stay. Overall, the staff was absolutely wonderful – warm, helpful, and always with a smile. We highly recommend this hotel and would love to return!
We had a spacious room with a terrace with amazing view. Bed and pillows were not the same level, unfortunately. Gym is great for a hotel gym. Some of the staff seemed like they couldn’t care less, but most were friendly and professional. Breakfast buffet was good and staff very nice and efficient there. (Special mentions to a super friendly omelette chef.) Overall a pleasant stay.
Very disappointed in this Meliá hotel. The hotel positions itself as 5 star but it’s not even close to 4 star experience - we stayed in much better 4 star hotels. The glass in the shower hasn’t been washed in a while, the tiles in the bathrooms are cracked, the headboard material is very worn. The room vibes in general are like from 90s, nothing like a 5 star experience. When we arrived late in the evening to check in, they assigned us with twin room even though a double/king size bed was requested - they said they can’t do anything until the next day, and what they did is just added a mattress topper to make the bed as the extra king size bed. The breakfast is mediocre, with very little choice, the swimming pool has all sunbeds reserved from early morning, even though it’s technically not allowed but the staff doesn’t seem to care much. We couldn’t connect the TV so we could sign in into Netflix as most of the channels are in Portuguese. UPDATE: after raising all of the above with hotel management, they changed our room to the higher floors, which met our expectations and was definitely much better maintained, and with additional perk being a large sun terrace (thanks so much for this). The management was very apologetic about the experience we had and promised that all the issues will be addressed by the maintenance in the original room. Appreciate the Meliá standards of hospitality were upheld by the management.
