I along with a group of nine fellow travelers stayed at the Melia Madrid Princesa during Spain's power outage on April 28, 2025. We returned to the hotel in the evening from our tour that day to find the hotel had emergency lighting, one elevator working AND offered a limited dinner menu with cooked food at the lobby bar along with tables set for dinner around the lobby. Most restaurants were closed so we were elated to see the hotel was offering hot meals. They even had free champagne (Cava) for us upon our arrival! The staff was amazing and worked very hard to make us feel at home. Our meals were excellent. I can't say enough about how the hotel and staff made our long day so very special! I also was impressed with the rooms. They are very well designed, good looking and very clean. I highly recommend this hotel. Thanks again to the staff who all had smiles on their faces after working so hard all day. We were all raving about our experience the next day. Fantastic breakfast the real highlight. Hotel too expensive for my perception, At the reception long waiting time, the hotel cards had to be recharged more than once.... Don't get me wrong a good hotel, but when you go 5 stars normally you get more for the money... at least in my experience.
They are currently doing construction and gave me a room that is exactly where they are working outside. It is so loud, you cannot have a conversation. You would think they would not book the rooms in the same area as construction? They did offer to move me, but said it will stop in 1 hour. Went to use the gym but it is also closed for 4 hours due to being painted. No alternate location provided- and primary reason I selected this hotel over others. Update- they did accommodate the request for another gym to use at their sister hotel. I’m sure the hotel is going to be great after construction is completed.
