The hotel in itself is immaculate and the staff are friendly and attentive. On arrival check in was easy, we were asked if we needed help with our bags and any questions. The bar staff are also extremely friendly and informative of menus. Unfortunately I have to remove a star as one morning we were awoken at 8:15 with extremely loud drilling above our room. I did speak to reception about this and she explained it was maintenance. She then proceeded to offer a room change to a different floor in the hope it would be quieter the next morning. We were very happy to have our room upgraded and it was much quieter in the morning. While it was disappointing we were not notified of this maintenance, it was positive the staff offered a resolution and were keen to make our stay more enjoyable.
I stayed at Meliá Milano this past weekend and booked a The Level Premium room with a king-size bed and a street view. Upon arrival, however, I was given a room facing the inner courtyard with two single beds pushed together instead. I immediately reported this at reception, and after a short wait in the lounge, I was transferred to the correct room I had originally booked. Whether this was an error or oversight is unclear, but it was handled properly in the end. The room itself was of excellent quality – the bed and pillows were very comfortable, the bathroom was well-equipped with high-end amenities, and there was both a coffee machine and a fully stocked minibar. One downside: the TV did not support Netflix or other streaming services, which you'd expect at a hotel of this caliber. Access to The Level lounge was included and was a definite highlight. Spacious and open 24/7, it offered a wide range of drinks, warm and cold snacks, and a great Italian coffee machine for fresh espresso and cappuccino. Breakfast can be enjoyed either in the lounge or in the restaurant. The restaurant breakfast is more extensive and very fresh, with excellent coffee. The lounge breakfast, while more limited, is still of very good quality. In general, staff were friendly and helpful. That said, there were a few small details that fell short of true five-star service – for example, a welcome pastry was left in the room for three days without being removed. Housekeeping, however, was otherwise consistent and thorough, with clean towels and amenities refreshed daily. As a Meliá Gold member, I'm used to slightly higher service standards, but considering the location and many positive aspects, I would consider staying here again.
Let’s be honest. It’s a nice hotel but it’s really by far not a five star property - from the service to the amenities. First of all, the building is not beautiful and the views from all windows are quite terrible. My curtains had to be permanently closed because other people could see into my room. Front desk service is cold at best. When staff begins to talk to each other and laugh in Italian knowing the guests do not speak the language, it’s far from five star property behavior. One of the waiters asked me to tip him in cash because otherwise he doesn’t see his tips till the end of the year. I thought we didn’t even need to tip in Italy - and I tipped handsomely on my bill only to then apologize that I didn’t bring any cash down. Not a five star property in Italy level of service or behavior. Couldn’t have a decent cappuccino a single time at this hotel. 15 euro for subpar drinks. It’s massively overpriced yet massively under delivers on the price / value dimension.
