Merchants House Hotel

Absolutely perfect for us in every way! The location was ideal for exploring Old Town. The hotel had great facilities including a (free) bookable sauna with gym facilities, communal seating areas with board games, a courtyard and an on-site coffee bar. We had a great room with original historic features (panelled ceiling and vintage furniture) and a roll-top bath. A real highlight was the breakfast. We weren't sure at first, because there is such a range of options in restaurants and bars around Old Town, but we made an excellent choice by staying in. The range of cereals, cold buffet, waffle station, pastries and cooked options was impressive, as well as delicious! We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for more of a 'boutique' hotel experience - delightful!

What a neat experience! Merchants House is located in a perfect spot in Old Town (taxi/Bolts are able to stop just up the lane). Even before we arrived, they were very accommodating (we had a last minute change to our reservation, we were coming in a day later, and they adjusted our reservation). From check-in and throughout our stay, Helga and the other folks at reception were super helpful. Our room was so neat and we did have A/C (Board Room Suite). The bed was comfortable and you have so much room to spread out. Breakfast was a treat (restaurant was below the hotel) and had quite the spread. There is no elevator, but Helga even helped us take our luggage up to second floor ❤️

Stayed here for three nights in the courtyard suite. The rooms were spacious and full of charm but it wasn’t the cleanest of accommodation. The bed had an old mattress with a mattress topper with the base sheet wrapped only around the topper. The bathroom was large but needed updating. Service was often mixed. The guy who welcomed us on arrival was great. First morning we went for breakfast and waited over 30 minutes and never saw a member of staff so no hot food available. On second and third mornings we did have a cooked option which was nice. Limited bread choices also available and a few dried out pastries. Overall this was an ok hotel but quite expensive for the level of service and accommodation provided. Its saving grace was the location. Right by the main square and a host of wonderful restaurants.
