Mercure Alameda is a great hotel. The room was big, bed comfortable, bathroom modern, shower had good volume and heat. Breakfast buffet is good and varies slightly every day. The room had a safe, extra pillows, blankets, electric kettle. The pool is small, but has awesome jets. Also they have hot tub, cold pool, steam room, and sauna. The neighborhood is safe. The room was quiet. The maid service and front desk were good. The only downside is that you need a taxi or Uber to go anywhere. There are few good restaurants within walking distance.
Overall - It’s the little things that make you 5 star- this is a great hotel but they need a few changes to reach the 4 star level. It’s definitely not a 5 star but it is nice. Location - not a good location for tourists Staff - excellent and helpful Rooms - spacious, nice beds/bathrooms Breakfast - excellent with lots of choice Gym - awesome gym. Subject to below… Now the shake your head moments: Gym/Pool/spa- closed on Monday’s for deep cleaning. I booked the hotel bc of the gym - deep cleaning should happen when it’s closed not when your clients want to use it. It’s so ridiculous - then you need to pay for water in the gym. At a 5 star? It’s prioritizing your needs over the client. Heating/cooling - not really needed so much in Quito but our room was warm bc the sun hit it during the day. I was told to open a window at night - I said “yes but the bugs will come in as there are no screens”. “No bugs in Quito sir”. Within 2 mins we had 3 moths in the room. And ALL other 4/5 star hotels have ac and heating in the city. At least just have screens. 3.5 stars. They’d be a 4 if they just change their simple idiosyncrasies. If you are starting a tour from here it’s totally fine as a hotel. The only reason I wouldn’t stay again is bc of the location though (and the Monday gym closing). It’s not a nice area. La Carolina is where you want to be.
A clean and spacious hotel with a comprehensive gym and spa. Food was good but it takes some time to get water and in the evening at “Spicy” one of their restaurants, they seem only to serve hot coffee and cold water for beverages if you choose the buffet option and be warned a cup of hot water is considered you purchasing a cup of tea for 2.50$. Overall the food is enough and fruit is fresh. Breakfasts include hot and cold fare. The best part I would say is the gym which has a full set of weights, running / cycling machines, squat rack and yoga mats. The spa also includes an ice plunge area, steam room, sauna, hot tub and a lap pool! Best perk during my stay.
