Mercure Angers Centre Gare

It was bit disappointing to say the least. It started with the TV, there was no way to watch anything else other than the French channels. Even the smallest of hotels I have stayed had a smart TV. Next one is the breakfast, it was one of the most limited breakfast I have had, there was no variety at all. It was surely not worth 17.9€. On the positive side, the staff were nice, the room was sound proof.

Absolutely not worth 4 stars, rather 2, if even two... It starts with the dark creepy hall coming straight out of ''the shining'' or some cheap red light district hotel in Amsterdam. When entering the ''fresh'' room, a stench of Dettol antiseptic spray mixed with some penetrating herbal fragrances takes your breath away (in a negative way) . Very unpleasant to sleep in, I can give you that. The room was cold and not preheated, when turning on the heater, I found myself after 30 minutes at the check-out complaining that the room stays cold and the heater looks more like an AC, the friendly girl at the counter confirms that it takes some time. So when coming back from a local restaurant, even after two hours with the heater on max, the room was still cold. The check-out lady came with me and confirmed this issue. She directly gave me a portable heater/oil radiator to heat up the room. (Which is unacceptable for a 4 star hotel). The room itself was very dark and had a ''used'' strange atmosphere, the room still covered with a very used old, damp and moist carpet is a no go anno 2024. The sealing was gaping and the shower cabin was very narrow. No mini bar, only french tv which is the most horrible tv to watch as everything is dubbed, two different mattresses with height difference, a crack and a big gap in between them (absolutely horror for people with back pain) The breakfast was very mediocre and strange as there was a bath towel on the floor in the middle of the breakfast room and no one picked it up. There are much nicer hotels for this price as it really felt like a scam. Mercure please step up your game and renovate or close this hotel, as it is so passe and decrepit.

This hotel does not deserve 4 stars, lack of plugs, Internet is weak, hot water is intermittent, towels are lacking as well as linens. Service is cold and not welcoming. Breakfirst is not at the level expected. Finally the bathroom is old fashion, small and poorly maintained. Well you should look for alternatives.
