We had a lovely week at the Mercure Hotel in Bologna! The location is absolutely perfect: right in the city center and within walking distance of the train station. Ideal for exploring the city and for easy travel connections. Our room was spacious, nicely decorated, and had the bonus of a charming balcony where we could relax in the evenings and enjoy the view. The bathroom was large and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was a real treat every morning with a delicious and varied selection. There were a few small issues, though. The bathroom ventilation didn’t seem to work, which made it quite hot and steamy after showering. Also, the air conditioning didn’t seem to function properly; despite setting it to 17 degrees, the room remained warm throughout our stay. Lastly, we were surprised by an extra charge at check-out, which hadn’t been mentioned at check-in and wasn’t listed in our booking confirmation. That said, the overall experience was very positive. With just a few small improvements, the stay would have been perfect. Definitely recommended for anyone looking to discover Bologna from a comfortable and centrally located base!
Excellent Location and Comfort Just Across from the Train Station I stayed at Mercure Bologna Centro for three nights during my trip from Rome to Bologna. The location couldn't be more convenient—it's literally right across the pedestrian walkway from Bologna Centrale, making it perfect for travelers arriving by train. The staff were all very polite, friendly, and helpful throughout my stay. My room was clean, spacious, and impressively quiet despite being near the station. The king-sized bed was especially comfortable and well-designed—you can turn or shift on one side of the bed without disturbing the other side at all. The bathroom and toilet were spotless and well-maintained, with a clean and functional shower. Overall, I had a very pleasant and restful stay, and I would definitely choose this hotel again the next time I visit Bologna.
This is more of 3.5 out of 5, but giving benefit of the doubt. Cheerful friendly service is a big plus, and so was a location very convenient to a train station. Services in the bar and restaurant were nothing to complain about, exceeding expectations. The price was fairly reasonable too. Enjoyed the sort of courtyard for little wine and sandwiches we brought in from excellent food court nearby. Now, some negatives. Rooms were adequately sized, and clean, but old and require updating. The main issue is antiquated A/C system that doesn't work properly. This is not true A/C, more like fan that provides air flow, but doesn't really refrigerate an air inside the room. Also, it is busy location, so it was noisy in the mornings for light sleepers, like myself. All in all, viable option in Bologna.
