Mercure Catania Excelsior

My stay at this hotel was not planned, rather had no other choice. Unfortunately the price-value rate was not so good. Not sure why the rooms looked so outdated, but it looked like as they were not renovated for a long time. It was not up to Mercure standards. The breakfast was interesting as it was my first stay in Italy. I was missing a good coffee as they only had in warmer jugs. Hope they will renovate it to be a good hotel inside the city centre.

This hotel leaves a lot to be desired. The lobby is nice, but outside are lots of camped homeless people which makes it feel quite unsafe. The first room we were given was absolutely awful, like something from a horror movie. Also, the hot water didn't work and it creaked with every step. Fortunately, after raising this to the front desk, we were given a new room which was more comfortable and had working amenities. Both rooms were extremely dated and didn't line up with the lobby at all.

Great location however the hotel is in need of a serious refurbishment. Although it was clean, the room looked straight out of the 90's with stained carpets, walls and peeling paint. There are also no modern expectations like easily accessible power outlets or USB charging ports. It was sufficient for a 1 night stay however I would look somewhere else for any longer given the price.
