While we truly appreciated the excellent location and friendly service, we were somewhat disappointed by the room and breakfast. The room felt a bit outdated, and the bathtub had some holes, although these were promptly repaired. The shower/ bath finishing was poorly done, and we could clearly hear conversations from neighboring rooms. As for the breakfast, it was quite basic, a few essentials here and there, but it lacked variety and could have been more inspiring. Overall, we did have a nice stay, but there is definitely room for improvement in some areas.
The location of this hotel is truly outstanding, right across from the iconic Porta Nigra, with a breathtaking view that is absolutely unforgettable. Unfortunately, this is where my excitement ends. The hotel itself feels outdated, despite my memory of it being renovated some years ago. Somehow, the scent of the past has soaked into the walls, and the atmosphere reflects it. While the rooms have received a slight redesign, the bathroom tells a very different story, one that deserves a short novel of its own. It is far below the standard you’d expect from a hotel rated above 4.0. That said, the room was spotlessly clean, which I truly appreciated. Breakfast is another area that needs improvement. The selection is large and seems promising at first glance, but the quality of the products was disappointing. I've stayed at several Mercure hotels in the past, and sadly, this was one of the weakest in terms of culinary experience. This hotel has enormous potential given its prime location and views. I’d rate this stay 3.5 out of 5, mainly for the view and cleanliness, but it definitely needs some upgrades to live up to the Mercure name.
I found the hotel very dated and in need of a revamp. Carpet in the room was well past it due date to be changed. No laundry service at all. Available snacks and drinks at reception was poor. No other juice besides gas and no sugar free option. Floor in the breakfast area by the steps is broken. Air conditioning was poor in the room as well. Just the complete feel was old and outdated. Not what I expected from Mercure hotels
