Room was decent, window view was of astroturf which is 10 years past needing replacement. The issue we had was there was some sort of function on in the building and a band was playing, and the rooms were not soundproof. Not ideal for a family with kids travelling and looking to get a good night sleep.
I had a 13-nights stay at the Mercure Melbourne Albert Park hotel. The room was spacious and it was located beside the beautiful Albert Park, perfect for a morning jog or evening stroll. There was a large gym facing the swimming pool. Facilities were alright, but the room was a horror. Having booked a 13-nights stay, hygiene and cleanliness were of utmost importance in my decision of the hotel. I've had read reviews cautioning about the hotel being old but I didn't mind that as long as the room was clean. Unfortunately, that wasn't the experience I got. Each day's housekeeping took no longer than 5 minutes for the room I got. On some days, housekeeping did not even turn up. I was appreciative to the front desk staff who had helped me to remind housekeeping to clean the room, but was just disappointed that the service by the housekeeping team wasn't consistent. The hotel would have been perfect for a 3-nights stay, nothing more than that.
I booked a “family stay” special. I could see in the fine print that this would be two adjoining rooms (booking says single room, 2 adults, 2 kids). Upon arrival, after a slow check in, signing two sets of paperwork and deposits, I was given keys to two rooms on different floors. After stating that that wouldn’t work (kids 8 and under) I was told that that is what I’d booked, multiple times. It was just a city stay so I was happy for a refund but they then gave us hope of an upgrade to a Pullman suite. After an hour of entertaining kids in the lobby we then got the key to a Mercure room with a bed and a sofa. Then we struggled to find the room which was located another “tower” with its own hidden elevator. Needless to say my sleep on the sofa was less than ideal too. Had to ask how the prepaid parking works. Turns out you drive around the corner and park it yourself. Would have been nice to know that before arriving. And then twice I couldn’t leave the car park because the prepaid parking wasn’t attached to the new room. Always the customers fault too. Very sour taste and won’t be choosing Mecure again.
