GREAT breakfast. Elevator. Clean and spacious. Nice staff. Highly recommend, though there are *slightly* better locations for tourists in Paris. Would definitely go again. The staff were cheerful and *personable*, not a given in France. They spoke multiple languages. The breakfast offered a wider array of options than we've had elsewhere. The room was bigger than one often finds in France, with a perfect bed and linens. When departing the hotel to scout out nearby places to eat or shop, turn left, then left again. If you turn right, the options and neighborhood are not as nice. Paris had unseasonably warm weather during our stay, and they weren't able to turn on the central air conditioning for the whole building (no climate control in each room). But they immediately brought us a fan.
Very happy we stayed at Mercure Paris Bastille Marais. Located close to Metro and bus stop for easy access to all the attractions. Charley and all the staff were very helpful. Friendly neighbourhood with lots of amenities close by. I would be happy to stay here again.
Best is location. It is next to Metro Line 9 Voltaire Station and within 15 minute walks to Place des Vosages and Bastille. Even a walk to Notre Dame is just a bit over half an hour. Worst is the bedding. The matresses are wrapped up in plastics and covered by one layer of bedsheet. Not sure who thought of this cheapening of the brand and worsening of experience idea but it was our first time to experience this plastic bed wrapping and it was awful: crinkly noises when you turn and the plastic doesn’t breathe so you started to sweat. We didn’t buy breakfast and just ate around the area which is lively and full of nice cafes restaurants boulongeries and groceries. The staff were super friendly and helpful. But if a hotel can’t provide a good night sleep, all the other efforts may be in vein. Just get rid of the plastic cover please. Also, the shower temp fluctuated but this seems a problem common in many French hotels so it is manageable.
