A hidden gem – both the hotel and the city I only booked a night in Székesfehérvár because Budapest was too expensive – and I’m so glad I did. The Mercure is in a charming old building right at the entrance to the beautiful historic old town. The hotel itself is a bit old-school: small beds, but clean rooms. What really makes the difference is the outstanding breakfast, incredibly kind and attentive staff, and the amazing pillows (I need to find out where to buy them!). The location couldn’t be better – step outside and you’re in the middle of a vibrant pedestrian zone full of cafés, bars, shops, and life. The city has a rich history and a great atmosphere, but hardly any tourists – for the first time in Hungary, I heard Hungarian all around me, and I loved it (I love learning different languages, but 🇭🇺 is really difficult). Both the hotel and the city are little treasures you might otherwise overlook. I’m happy I didn’t.
An all in all pleasant stay. Central. Service fine. The Hotel is not ... newly renovated... but kept tidy and provides a functional stay at Szekesfehervar. Rooms clean and spacious, breakfast fine.
Aircond was rundown. No water bottle supplied other than the complimentary upon check in.You have to purchase if you need more.This is unsual. Others ok.
