A Charming Vintage Stay The hotel boasts classic vintage furniture that adds a nostalgic charm to the ambiance. While there were a few minor shortcomings, overall it was a decent and pleasant stay. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was impressively clean and well-designed—top-notch indeed. However, the flushing system in room 230 could use some maintenance. The highlight was definitely the lobby: elegant, with a timeless wooden aesthetic that truly sets the tone for the whole property.

Arrived early at the hotel and only to know that we could only check in at 3pm. Most probably due to high occupancy that few days that the room was ready around 2.30pm. It’s a historic building since it’s called Merdeka Palace, as it indicates pretty much of the Independence Day. It’s reasonably priced too as the basic hotel infrastructure are pretty well equipped with. Even iron is available in my room’s cupboard, no need for additional request from housekeeping. Travellers might need to prepare better soap or shower gel themselves, as only the tiny round nostalgic hotel soap is being provided. I get my own shower gel from Watsons in Merdeka Plaza which is just within a stone throw away. Pretty strategic location to stay while trying to explore Kuching city central. Hotel breakfast starts at 7 and ends at 10. For those who need morning quick bite at earlier timing could explore the localised food nearby the hotel.

A real disappointment with the services of the hotel. Firstly, there r no upkeep to the hotel. All the glass windows r dusty & turning to brown stains. U won't feel comfortable at all. 2nd, there r no fridge, no bathroom mat, no phone to connect to the front office. 3rd, the toilet bowl was dirty with long hairs floating in it. (Refer to photo attached) 4th, no body shampoo but only hand soap. 5th, no wall plug near the bed to charge hphone. 6th, all the nos in the website, Agoda (Gen line nos, duty mgr 24/7 no) either is line automatic cut off or no answering. Finally I went to the counter at 12.40am to check with them for floor mat & complain. The staff gave me the duty mgr no to call of which the number I hv called several times & no answering. I call that number infront of the staff & he realised that the volume of the phone was switched off to silent mode. That phone is supposed to be the 24/7 mgr phone & was just left at the counter instead if carried with him 24/7 even he is off duty. I will speak to the main mgr tomorrow & demand for an explanation.
