Mereside

I had booked into a nearby hotel, but this was changed to the Mereside, as they're the same owners. Minor issues at checking in, as I'd been sent an e-mail with the information about the change, but had ZERO internet access once I had started my journey to Douglas. All sorted fairly quickly though with a phone call. Very nice clean room, massive bed & good sized bathroom. A couple of minor issues, and very minor - the TV set was wall mounted, but in a position/height that meant I was banging my head on it whenever I passed. The room was a little cold sometimes overnight, but that could have been down to me not checking the radiator setting. A few of the fittings were loose too - handles on drawers, bathroom shelves, etc. Ten minutes work with a screwdriver would sort this. I'd definitely stay again. Good location, close to the sea front without being on it, and lots of nearby free parking and IF you time it right you'll get a spot that isn't too far from the hotel.

Pleasant hotel with excellent service marred by an EXTREMELY DIRTY ROOM. The hotel itself was pleasant, with friendly staff and a convenient location on a quiet street. The food was also good. However, our room was shockingly dirty, particularly the bathroom, which had smeared tiles, mould between the tiles, and a mouldy ceiling. A smeared, freestanding mini-fridge was inexplicably placed in the main room, and we found a wrapper under a bed. It was disgusting.

1/5. Cold, Damp and humidity; all communal areas were old musty, also the situation in the guest rooms. There was a high level of humidity and damp patches could be seen on the ceiling. Room was cold and with poor insulation & ventilation leading to these issues. Sound pollution; the walls and ceiling were paper thin you can hear everything from quiet conversations below you to people walking along the street. Business travel; there are no proper desks in any of the rooms this isn’t there target audience according to the manager). This isn’t suitable accommodation if you’re travelling for work. Guest house and not a hotel even so it has a 4-star rating which it falls well short of. Very expensive compared to hotels in the area that provide so much more at the same price or a fraction more.
