An easy short walk to Hotel Merlin from the station. Despite our train being very delayed, Lutz, the owner, had tracked it and was waiting for us with a warm and cheery welcome. Our room was very clean, with everything and more that we needed, and we enjoyed a good night's sleep. Perfectly located for a short walk into town, and local restaurants are nearby for either an evening meal or breakfast. We booked directly with the hotel.

I stayed at Hotel Merlin for six nights during a business trip, and I can highly recommend it, especially for first-time visitors to Cologne. The location is fantastic—just a 5-minute walk to the train station and about 10 minutes to the Kölnmesse exhibition center. The owners are incredibly welcoming, always ready with helpful tips and a warm goodbye each day. The rooms are clean, well-furnished, and offer everything you need for a city trip, including a comfy bed, a well-stocked minibar at affordable prices, and a safe. The hotel doesn’t offer breakfast, but with plenty of cafes and shops just around the corner, this wasn’t a problem at all. A small downside is that there’s no elevator, but the overall value and the homely atmosphere more than make up for it. If I visit Cologne again, I’ll definitely stay here!
