Mesón de Santa Rosa Luxury Hotel

This is where you want to stay when you travel to Queretaro. It is in the heart of the historic city center, right across the street from several open-air cafes in a tree-filled plaza. The hotel building is 400+ years old, and the rooms are fabulous and large. I've stayed here four times and see no need to stay anywhere else. It is the opposite of typical sterile corporate hotels.

I didn’t stay here but ate at their restaurant two nights running because the food & service was so good. Recommend the shrimp tacos very much! The servers between them speak a little English (compared to my zero Spanish) but they were very attentive and with the aid of Google translator my needs were met and my experience was brilliant. It’s a lovely setting listening to the musicians in the plaza.

Roach and mosquito infested hotel! Do not stay here!!!! This place is disgusting!!! I saw several other reviews mentioning the bugs but we booked anyway and I regreted it! The hotel looks beautiful and is in a great location. We were excited to stay here and upon arrival we saw our big room and we were impressed. However, right away we saw a cockroach in the bathroom. It’s an old building so we killed it and moved on. Middle of the night my toddler wakes up crying and we notice a big mosquito bite on his cheek. We can see many mosquitos flying around our room. In the morning, I had a total of 10 bites and my baby had 6. We called down to the from desk and the maintenance guy tells us that yes, they have a ton of mosquitos due to all the plants and the standing water (fountain). He actually said when he waters the plants he can see them all swarm. They actually have bug spray at the front desk to give to people just for this problem. My son is only 2 and could not use the bug spray and I was pregnant so Zika is a concern. Not to mention they are warnings everywhere about Dengue in Queretero right now. I never expected the I would have to spray down with deet just to go to sleep in a 5 star hotel. We picked up my sons strolled from the floor and about 15-20 mosquitos swarmed out. The was during the day!!! If you are seeing mosquitos in the middle is the day, it’s a problem. Anyway, we offered to pay for the night we spent and the next night even though we wouldn’t be staying there and to cancel the rest of our 6 day stay. Absolutely no refunds is what we were told. So beware that they will not refund you for any reason even a health concern. They could see the bites all over us and did apologize but said they couldn’t really do anything about the mosquitos and that it's an old building so there are cockroaches. I would never stay there again. The AC also wasn't working and leaked all over our luggage but that was the least of our concerns at the time. We moved to a different hotel in the same area and didn't get a single bite the rest of our beautiful stay in Queretero!
