Mid City Motel

Mid cityMotel, Mount Gambier I recently stayed at the Mid city Motel in Mount Gambier and had a mixed experience. The rooms are quite old and have a lingering smell, which becomes more noticeable during winter. If you’re traveling with kids or booking one of the larger family rooms, I wouldn’t recommend it—the room is very spacious but only has a small window AC unit. It struggles to heat the room properly, so it gets uncomfortably cold. The washroom is okay in terms of cleanliness, but the color scheme and layout make it feel cramped and outdated. On the positive side, the smaller rooms for couples are a bit better maintained and more comfortable, so if you’re just passing through as a solo traveler or a couple, those might be a better option. Overall, not the worst place for a short stay, but I’d suggest looking elsewhere if you’re traveling with family or visiting during colder months.

This accommodation experience was very disappointing. Firstly, the place had clearly not been cleaned — there were cobwebs in the corners and a thick layer of dust on the surfaces. Too dirty. Secondly, the sound insulation was terrible; I could hear conversations and running water from the neighboring room, and at 11:00 PM, they started playing loud music, making it impossible to sleep. Thirdly, the stove was basically useless — it looked functional but took forever to cook anything. Lastly, the toilet seat was old and dirty, and the faucet had to be shut off with great force, otherwise it would keep dripping.

Unfortunately had to give 1 star to write the review. Like many have written, description does not match the room. I pad $300 for practically a hostel for 2 nights. Fan in bathroom was right on top of shower yet there was no fan in the hole just exposed wire. When I complained, girl at reception said it was perfectly fine & that there were no other rooms available. So I couldn't use shower for 2 days. Absolutely disgusting that they won't give me a refund. As a hostel, I'm sure it's perfectly fine but not the price. No smoke detector or secure lock on door. Dirty towel & stain in sink. Have reported them to SA Health & safety. They don't deserve to be in business!!!
