I recently visited the Midrand Convention Centre for venue scouting. The venue itself was well-maintained, and I was impressed by its cleanliness throughout the facility. However, the IT infrastructure left much to be desired. The technology setup seemed outdated, and I didn’t feel confident in its ability to support more modern event requirements. One major drawback was the reception area, which unfortunately had an unpleasant odor. It was quite off-putting and something that could definitely use attention to improve the guest experience. On a more positive note, the surrounding garden was beautiful. It provided a refreshing and peaceful atmosphere, with well-kept landscaping that could offer a great space for outdoor activities or events. Despite the drawbacks, the overall potential of the venue is clear, especially for events that don’t require complex tech setups. The serene garden and clean spaces certainly have their appeal, and with a few upgrades to the infrastructure and some attention to the reception area, it could become a much more appealing option for various events.

Our conference room wasn't great. Value for money, but not upmarket. We did get one of the smaller 6 seater venues though

Not what I expected from a 4-star hotel. The two stars rating is what I would have graded it at... here is why: 1. Shower in bathroom blocked with water not flowing out propertly. 2. Aircon switches on- but not working. 3. No two point plugs in a room (generally you would expect this at a 4-star accommodation). You can get a plug from reception- but they require a R100 deposit... and best part- you cant pay the deposit by card (who carries cash these days?) 4. Was on the first floor of the Oxford house- noisy night as you can hear the footsteps of the room above you.
