Spent several nights in Mito Casa and really enjoyed the stay. It's situated 10 minutes walk from the 'downtown' part of the city, where all the main shops and museums are. The room was very clean and tidy, nice bathroom with hot shower. The building was constructed in the 20s and has a deco feel about it, with some original features still intact. The parque floor squeaks a bit, but it all adds to the charm. If you want formulaic ibis/Hilton, magnolia everywhere and all mod cons, then this isn't for you. The staff were really helpful, with maps and tips on where to eat drink and made us feel really welcome.

I have stayed in a few hotels in the Providencia/Bella Vista/Bellas Artes neighborhoods around Baquedano station, and this is my favorite. It is a unique hotel improbably on the Main Street (Av Providencia) right next to the subway. Despite this you feel securely tucked away in stylishly renovated old 4-story with a nice garden, well done bathrooms, pleasant lobby and breakfast area. (Breakfast comes with the room and features brewed coffee and eggs made to order.) I am giving Mito Casa 5 stars because of the very friendly (English speaking) 24-hour staff. Recently I had my passport stolen, and the staff was very supportive, helping me with printing documents needed for the embassy and generally providing moral support late into the evening. (Thanks Francisco!)
