This is a 3 star hotel, so as long as you expect Tokyo size (small) & rather basic amenities, this place is excellent for the cost. It is clean, safe, comfortable, and the service is really good. While they warned us room cleaning happens every 3 days by default, they still came in and made the bed every morning. The desk attendant hurried out from behind the desk to give us towels to dry when we came in from a sudden downpour... good service here. There are convenient washer/dryers (500 yen for wash + 1 hr dry as of April 2025), and the location is great, 6 min walk from Ueno Station & Ueno Park, very easy to get around Tokyo from here, as well as the Skyliner to Narita airport. Robes available as well (8th floor if I remember correctly). Overall, I recommend this as a good choice.

We enjoyed our short stay at this hotel. It’s our pit stop before moving to Niigata We arrived just before midnight due to a late flight. Traffic from Haneda Airport was light. We decided to take a taxi which took less than 30 min. There are food alley diagonally opposite the hotel with lots of food choices. The prices are cheaper than those at Tokyo. There are a lot of youngsters here. Some restaurants allows smoking which we tried to avoid. Name of Accomodation: Mitsui Garden Hotel Ueno, 1st June 2025. Duration of stay: 1 night Driving direction: 30min via taxi from Haneda Airport. Yen 10,500. Parking: No parking facility within hotel. Hotel room: 2 single bed + 1 extra single bed. We were on level 10 facing Ueno Station. It was a great view. Hotel Meals: Breakfast at hotel lobby restaurant, Bosco-il-chianti. The food spread is very good, a mix of Japanese and Italian dishes. Every dish was delicious. We enjoyed the good variety of dishes. It’s not too much, but satisfying. Onsen: Not available. Surrounding attractions: Right opposite Oeno Station. Perfect for our transfer via Shinkansen. There are pavement and elevator that you can move your luggage from the hotel to Oeno Station. Overall, will i come back again? Yes!

It is a budget hotel. So the rooms are not "bad" just very small. Zero thrills but clean and functional. I think if you stayed more than a few days it would get hard to manage because there is no where to put large cases or put away any clothes. It's designed for 1 or 2 night stays I think. The location is great if you want easy access to Ueno park because you intend to do museum hopping and you can get anywhere in Tokyo easily with the train connections. But there is nothing beautiful or charming about the immediate surroundings. There is a yokocho (bar street) nearby with tonnes of Izakaya that get very busy at weekends.
