I never write reviews but I had to for this stay— one of the best stays I’ve ever had! Our room with an open air bath was incredible, and the staff were so incredibly kind. And we got to try a lot of delicious foods that were served for dinner and breakfast. It was our first time trying onsen and we don’t speak Japanese, and the staff were very patient to explain the customs, and provided English directions for the baths and translations for the elaborate food menus. To the staff— thank you so much for taking such great care of me and my mom during our stay and making it so memorable!

This was our second trip to Hakone, and one of our two 'luxury' stays. We spent extra for a Japanese/Western style room with a private open air bath, and it was very worth it! The mattress style beds on the floor were comfortable while fitting into the traditional aesthetics, the direct entrance/exit from the bathroom to the balcony was very convenient, and the view was spectacular, especially for morning baths. There are no chairs inside, just one stool, and the tatami area for sitting with chair backs, if you are not good at getting up and down off the floor it may be a bit uncomfortable, but otherwise the room was very spacious. We opted to include breakfasts and dinners in our stay and so long as you are a fan of traditional Japanese cuisine or are adventurous you will enjoy it immensely. Both dining areas were peaceful and well lit, with large windows and extremely attentive staff. We did not try any of the reservable springs, but the mens and womens were well appointed with indoor and outdoor areas, and the provided bags in the room to take your yukata, socks, and other things to the baths. They also have midnight ramen, and dumplings in the early evening for free, and tea at any time. Even when doing nothing, the grounds were lovely to walk and enjoy. If there was any downside, it was simply that there was a bit of a walk to get to the buses if you intend to go into Hakone and the surrounding area, but they graciously provide shuttle transport to and from the Kowakidani station on the Hakone Tozan line to come in and leave.

Fabulous place to stay. Quite an uphill trek from the train station so arranged a pick up. Set in lovely countryside. Staff speak excellent English. Breakfast and tea were fantastic. We stayed room 404 with a private onsen, a lovely authentic room with balcony. Only regret was not staying longer than 2 nights.
