Motel 6 Effingham IL

I was a bit concerned at first, but it was late at night and the best price for a Choice Hotels affiliated hotel. There were cheaper options, but not in named hotels that I recognized. Lobby was clean and the night clerk was friendly. Parking in the back was dark and dodgy, so we parked in front, which is fine. Our room was great. It was recently renovated, carpets have been replaced with wood laminate. Beds were clean and firm but comfy. The room seemed a bit musty when we entered but it freshened up once the air conditioner was on. They are in the process of upgrading the rooms. Two rooms next to us were in process so we could see the progress, which is great! We didn't try breakfast because there is a great restaurant right next door with a super breakfast buffet.

Well, what can I say but this place was sketchy as all get out. To be fair, the staff seemed nice. The room was not good, but not the worst I've seen. It seems that they've tried to update it but it's still fairly old feeling. It seemed fairly clean, although my pillows had no cases which wasn't ideal. They fixed that. The breakfast wasn't very good. Our AC didn't work properly, and my friend had a guy manage to get into his room using a key card that was supposedly programmed for a different room. I noticed wires hanging out of the card reader on the room next to mine. Even with the low price we paid this place wasn't worth it. You can certainly get by with a night's sleep here, but my advice would be to go elsewhere if you can.

We stayed here last night to rest on a road trip. Room was warm, bed uncomfortable but adequate. However, the room had not been cleaned. Hair in the shower as well as used bar of soap. Foors in main room had not been swept. Sheets appear clean but linty. Also, the night receptionist was smoking in the lobby when we checked in just after midnight. When shared our concerns at checkout, the receptionist, Amber, said "Sorry about that." She made no note, and made no effort to rectify the situation. I don't have many expectations for a room at this price ($50), but I do expect a clean room.
