Mount Meru Hotel

Really lovely and accommodating staff that welcomed us for our first night in Tanzania. The rooms weren’t especially luxurious, but they were clean and well maintained. The grounds and pool were beautiful and the property seemed quiet. There was a wonderful breakfast with a wide array of food and drink available as well.

This hotel is in a great location. The restaurant has great tasting food and the bar is a great way to start your night. The bed is comfortable. The shower is has good pressure, no bathmat or hand towels. We did ask for some and we are still waiting for them to be delivered. The room key was annoying as it wouldn’t work and it was frustrating to go back to reception to get the key redone. The breakfast the next day was great and plentiful.

Drinks took 30+ minutes every time we ordered. Beds are hard as a rock with only 2 pillows provided. Only 2 towels provided (no hand towels or wash cloths). We’ve called three times to try to get towels/pillows, still nothing. Bathroom is tiny with no way to keep water contained in the shower. Outlets aren’t provided in any helpful locations (like in the bathroom at all, or by the bedside). Pool is too cold to swim in. There is a great view of Mount Meru, but we previously stayed at the Grand Melia and it was significantly better in every way.
