After a disappointing experience with our previous accommodation, we were fortunate to find this gem. It's ideally located in Gijón's city center and close to its beautiful beaches. There are also plenty of excellent restaurants nearby. Miguel at reception was incredibly helpful and professional — he truly made our stay even more enjoyable.
Fantastic space and the friendliest staff. The room was spacious and very well kept. The decoration is really nice and minimalistic to my taste which is perfect. The location is great, you can reach most places in the city by walking through the lovely streets of Gijon.
My recent stay at Munna Hotel Boutique was a profound disappointment and did not live up to its advertised 4-star rating. While the central location is convenient, Gijón offers many better options, including hotels, hostels, and AirBnB rentals, that provide superior value and comfort. From speaking with other guests, it became clear that this dissatisfaction is a shared experience. The Noise Inside Was Constant and Unbearable I am used to city noise, so when I say this hotel has a severe lack of soundproofing, it is not an exaggeration. The noise was constant, day and night, and it was entirely from inside the hotel, not the street. It was impossible to relax or sleep peacefully. I could clearly hear people in neighboring rooms and upstairs, including toilets flushing and doors slamming. The worst disruptions came from the cleaning staff, who worked loudly between 9 AM and 12 PM, talking and actively dragging heavy furniture (video available). A major source of this noise was a supply closet located directly next to my room (photo available). When I reported the issue, specifically mentioning being woken up by a baby crying at night, staff acknowledged the problem but offered no real solution. Their only suggestions were to move to a smaller, "not recommended" room or to simply wait until the family with the baby checked out. It's important to clarify that the issue was not with the baby or the parents, but with the hotel's paper-thin walls and its failure to provide a quiet environment. This was an unprofessional disclosure of a guest's travel plans and showed a complete lack of concern for my comfort. Other Notable Issues: Inconsistent Service: While the woman who handled both my check-in and check-out was helpful, she was the only one. No other staff member proactively offered assistance with things like luggage, local recommendations, or other services—which is not the kind of anticipatory service expected from a 4-star hotel. The room where breakfast was served closed at 10:30 AM and was not reopened, leaving only a smaller couch for people to sit in for the rest of the day, which did not serve as a proper common area. Poor Maintenance & Hygiene: I have photos of a visibly stained toilet seat, dead insects left on the walls, sheets with a hole in them, and a decorative plant placed in styrofoam. Outlet covers were loose, which is a safety concern. My room had two tiny trash cans, and the foot pedal on one of them was broken. The floor cleaning was poorly done, with dirt simply pushed around. Inconsistent Cleaning: The fact that I was told my room wasn't ready when I checked in, despite cleaning taking place daily from 9 AM to 12 PM, is concerning. It suggests that a very superficial cleaning process is the norm, and a more thorough cleaning only occurs when they are expecting a new guest. Problematic Breakfast: The breakfast was of very poor quality, not even meeting the standard of a continental breakfast. It was served in inconvenient 30-minute slots, and a single, tiny elevator meant long waits to get to the dining area. For context, in Gijón, you can get a great coffee and a pincho for just €2.50, which is far better than what the hotel offers. While the staff kept the food well-stocked, there was no option to opt out of breakfast for a lower room rate. Final Verdict The quality of the furnishings is basic, and for a hotel claiming to be 4-star, the lack of service, cleanliness, and comfort is completely unacceptable. Munna Hotel Boutique should realistically be considered a 2-star at best. A hostel across the street, which is also a 2-star property, has similar sound issues, but it has the same central location and view (which is simply of the street with nothing else to look at) for a fraction of the price. That hostel even provides a shared kitchen, which is far more useful than the poor breakfast here. Save your money and look for a hotel that genuinely lives up to its promises.
