Muthu Newton Hotel

Beautiful exterior. Unhelpful staff, rooms that are hotter than outside despite leaving windows open with holes in carpet and lampshades. Service did not replenish towels or take away used dishes. Wedding going on that played loud music starting at 8:30pm until late in the night and we had to leave windows open due to heat. No food accommodations due to wedding (despite seeing other guests having sandwiches and cheese plates).

This was my biggest disappointment in Scotland. The service was sub par and the staff was not interested in customer service, with the exception of the restaurant staff for breakfast. The rooms were so outdated, carpets threadbare and with holes. Stained sheets, poor wifi, and stuffy rooms with windows that could only be cracked open. We couldn't get any refreshments or water when needed, especially since the staff was focused on the wedding reception during our stay. Additionally, when we booked, they did not mention that a large wedding reception that would be playing extremely loud music a few doors away until midnight. I would have never booked a peaceful place had I known this. When I called the front desk regarding the music, I was rudely interrupted and told they would quiet down at midnight. When I spoke to the manager the next day, he said he was available at the front desk all night... I went once to complain about the noise and another time to find water, and no one was in sight. He didn't offer a comp or an apology or seem to care that we had a miserable time. Don't be fooled by the marketing and website.. this place may have been nice 30 years ago.. Find a better place, it will not be hard.

Outside of hotel is beautiful inside of original hotel lots of woodwork however hotel is in desperate need of a remodel, roof is actively leaking so mold smell is overpowering. Room was large and bath was larger. No AC but after a day of complaining they bought a few fans for rooms. Disappointed overall.
