Mvngata Beach Hotel

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are very spacious and clean. The bed was super comfortable!! However, the location of the hotel isn’t ideal. It’s a 15 minute drive/taxi ride from Playa del Carmen. For us, that wasn’t a big issue because we didn’t want to spend much time there anyway. The biggest downside for us was the food at the hotel, which was not great and it’s overpriced for what you get. Luckily there are a few places around where you can get/order nice food. Would recommend this hotel for couples who want a relaxed and quiet stay away from the touristy stuff!

For $540 a night, this hotel fails to deliver anything close to a true 5‑star experience. It’s located in the middle of nowhere, with no nearby amenities, forcing guests to rely on the hotel’s limited and overpriced food options. Breakfast is downright stingy—imagine paying this rate and being told to share a single small bowl of yogurt. Weekends are even worse: the property is overrun with day‑pass visitors, leaving no available lounge chairs or places to relax. Staff seem far more interested in catering to these non‑guests—likely due to generous tipping—while paying hotel guests are ignored. The result is a crowded, overpriced, and poorly managed experience that feels more like a chaotic beach club than the luxury boutique retreat it claims to be. This would be no more than a 3 star hotel in Europe or Asia.

Writing to you from a hospital bed by way of MVNGATA Hotel. If you want undercooked or old food this is the place for you. Don’t worry if the food is bad then you can let them know and they’ll politely bring you some more bad food. On the bright side the rooms are amazing and breakfast is at least better than the risk of lunch & dinner. The servers are polite but for some reason remembering orders is just isn’t a strong skill at MVNGATA so if you order mashed potatoes be ready for french fries or better yet no sugar on something be ready for sugar drenching. What’s actually hilarious is when you’re sitting for breakfast and you hear other guests dining at their tables complaining about the exact same thing. Finally be ready with all that said to have TIP ready! You’ll be sure to hear tip tip tip all the time so just have cash ready for all the greatness that’s offered. If that sounds good to you go ahead and book and enjoy the view!
