Mystery Bay Cottages

Great spot for a family holiday. We had a wonderful time with our two boys (9 and 4) and loved exploring the area from the cottages. Head to Billy’s Beach and explore the rock pools, we saw an octopus! Spotted loads of wildlife within the grounds and really enjoyed the daily morning visit from the colourful birds. The cottages are well equipped with everything you’ll need and there is also a well stocked ‘fun room’ with heaps of DVDs and games. The BBQ is a nice edition too. Can’t recommend it enough. The owner is an absolute legend and will go out of his way to make sure you have a nice time. Top tip, book direct and save a packet on Airbnb fees!

You sometimes talk with people that you instantly click with because of their genuine and kind personality, and Laurence from Mystery Bay Cottages is one of those people. I had been meticulously combing accomodations and locations to propose to my (now) fiancée, and when I gave Mystery Bay Cottages a call I knew I had found THE place. Laurence spoke of this place and the whole area with love, and after staying five nights in one of the cottages, I can assure you he wasn't being biased. Nestled between stunningly green and picturesque rolling hills on one side, and a thin strip of national park on the other that gives way to two seperate but equally beautiful and very quiet beaches after a short walk; Mystery Bay Cottages really is a 'hidden gem' that ticks so many boxes. When we arrived we were greeted with Crimson Rosella's and Rainbow Lorikeets on our back verandah that ate out of our hands, and during our stay we saw many of the 76 species of birds that have been observed on-site. We saw an echidna, possums, wallabies and numerous other wildlife right near the Cottages. The scenery, cool weather with a constant ocean breeze, wildlife, and sounds of nature with the waves crashing in the distance gave us a wonderful and intimate holiday to unwind and enjoy our special time together. We found ourselves not even turning on the TV and barely reaching for our phones. The location is practically perfectly in-between Batemans Bay and Bega, you have Tilba only a couple minutes away that is a gorgeous quaint touristy town to walk through and have lunch. There is Tilba Valley Winery & Ale House that has really nice meals. And in the other direction is Narooma, which has everything you'd want and is only about 15 minutes away. The Cottages have all the amenities you need. And I didn't leave wishing that I had done anything differently. I don't normally write reviews, but Mystery Bay Cottages is a place my fiancée and I will definitely be returning to, and I highly recommend it to anyone searching for that special place. Unfortunately it's dog friendly so all I can hear is constant barking plus the inside of the cottages smell like dog. Such a shame because the place is so nice just to get ruined by constant barking and strong smell of dog and dog fur on the spare blankets. Also find it difficult to breath in the bedrooms. Wont be coming back here.
