NH Collection Amsterdam Barbizon Palace

Hotel location is perfect and easy to locate from anywhere around Amsterdam. Breakfast was excellent with a variety of choices from the traditional continental to the full English. Room was as expected for the stay, a place to rest rather than somewhere to sit and admire the views. You'll need a window for that. Staff could not do enough for us being extremely professional, polite and accommodating. Definitely returning.

The location of the hotel is absolutely top-notch — right in the heart of Amsterdam, close to Central Station and many attractions. It's incredibly convenient for getting around the city. However, there were several disappointments during our stay. Our room had a staircase connecting the entrance and bathroom to the bedroom area, which turned out to be quite dangerous, especially at night. I nearly fell on one occasion, and I believe this design should come with a improved lighting. Housekeeping left a lot to be desired. We encountered torn towels and dirty glasses more than once, which is not acceptable for a hotel of this category. Breakfast had a good selection, but the cleanliness of the dining area was lacking. There was food on the floor, and staff didn’t seem attentive to maintaining the area during busy times. In summary, while the location is excellent, the hotel needs to improve safety in room design and pay much more attention to cleanliness and maintenance to truly offer the premium experience it promises.

A Nice Hotel In A Not So Family Friendly Tourist Area The NH Collection Barbizon Palace in Amsterdam is very nice. Located near the Central Station, most of the sites we visited were within walking distance (2 miles or less). The room was comfortable and nice. Our window overlooked the canal. Sometimes the party boats were a bit loud later in the evening. The room amenities were standard. The hotel staff were very friendly and responsive to our needs. The daily breakfast buffet was good. There are just two family (young children) advisories: 1st; the hotel is located in the Red Light District. Scantily dressed women on window display is the norm. Souvenir stores sell a variety of sexual items. 2nd; marijuana, and the smell is prolific. I would rate this hotel a little lower than a 4-star hotel, around 3.6.
