NH Johannesburg Sandton Hotel

We visited for the Concerts By Candlelight show and was blown away by the opulence at reception and the hall. Everything was well run and service was quick. After the show we indulged in supper at the restaurant which was nothing short of brilliant. There was a set menu to cater for the show and a buffet but we decided to order off the menu. The seafood chowder was tasty yet had some broken clam shells in the soup, no complaints on the steak which was cooked to our liking and for dessert - the Pear & thyme dessert which was great but there was just no Thyme flavour in the dessert. The complimentary sushi and bread sticks were a classy touch. Definitely heading back for a full overnight stay. At the hotel.

Went there for an event. Lovely decor, friendly and professional staff, lots of parking. The food was really great. Didn't stay over so can't comment on rooms.

The waitresses in the restaurant need serious training. Here are just some of their antics on Saturday night 1. We had to wait long for menus, and given only one. 2. No wine list offer, until we asked what was on offer 3. The waitress did not know the wine list, and when we selected, she got both selections wrong. And then they did not have either of our choices available 4. We orders two starters, only one arrived 5. The starters and main courses were brought all together after a very long wait. We chose to keep it at the table in case we had to wait long again 6. The couple at the adjacent table had to go fetch menus themselves 7. The food was overpowered by garlic 8. All this cost a cool R1000 for average food and terrible service. Won’t see us again soon
