Magical place. Hidden in the ‘Japanese Alps’ region, beautiful traditional onsen. Several baths available to enjoy, with a private half hour session offered to each couple to use one of two private baths. Service was exceptional, with dinner and breakfast both filling as well as delicious. Several more local dishes on the menu, so be prepared to try something different / new if you have a Western palate! Hotel itself needs some small renovation in areas, but ultimately a very relaxing and ‘authentic’ experience. Worth going to just experience the place at least once!

Keiunkan is truly a magical, silent place - perfect for those seeking to experience the heart of Japanese tradition while completely immersing themselves in nature. Imagine soaking in steaming hot springs with a view of the surrounding mountains, all while deer or monkeys occasionally appear in the distance. The feeling is absolutely unforgettable. I've been to Japan seven times and have visited many hot spring resorts across the country, but I can confidently say this place is truly unique. It stands out not only for its historical charm but also for the serenity and authenticity it offers. For any hot spring lover, this is a must-visit. The hospitality here deserves special mention - the staff were beyond friendly and thoughtful. Every interaction felt warm and sincere, and you can tell they take real pride in making your stay special. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed and cared for. And the food -- simply gorgeous! The kaiseki-style meals were not only beautifully presented but absolutely delicious. Don't just take my word for it -- check out the photos from other reviewers. Every dish was a work of art and a delight for the senses. While the hotel provides a convenient shuttle from the nearest train station, I highly recommend renting a car. The area is peaceful and driving around is a pleasure. Having a car also gives you the freedom to explore other beautiful spots nearby at your own pace. If you're looking for a place to relax, reconnect with nature, and enjoy authentic Japanese culture, Keiunkan is a gem you shouldn’t miss.

What amazed me most during my stay at Keiunkan wasn’t just the serene hot springs or the beautiful mountain setting—it was the thought that this inn has been in continuous operation since 705 AD. How is that even possible? The secret lies in a rare blend of deep family stewardship, respect for tradition, and the ability to quietly adapt over time. Keiunkan isn’t just a business—it’s a legacy, carefully preserved across 50+ generations. A true testament to long-term thinking and cultural dedication. Therefore, Service and traditional Japanese menu (evening/morning) are excellent! Enjoy your stay in this very old location to refresh your mind and spirit!
