What a once in a lifetime experience. The northern lights were above any imagination. The Aurora lights guides went out of their way to make the light search enjoyable. Their excitement and passion was so fun. We love all activities. Guides were professional and safety conscious. The dog sleds and reindeer sleds were unique. While all activities were wonderful the Dog sleds were our favorite. All staff was courteous and went out of their way to make the stay wonderful. The rooms were perfect. It is spectacular to see the northern lights and starts from the panoramic view rooms. Food was great too. Its a once in a lifetime experience and the Northern Lights Village is amazing.
Wonderful place to stay. We managed to see the aurora in the beginning of April even though they said it's almost end of the season. We booked the sauna and hot pool for 4 person but I feel that one hour for everyone to use the service is limited especially showering with man and women and girl and boys in a family. It's quite rush. After getting the keys and walked to the place, get changed, how much time we would have left to enjoy both hot pool and sauna, taking pictures, and shower and cleaned after that. With that price, we should be given more time. It's not cheap. Everything is money including if you ask for luggage transfer service in and out from room €5/ bag/way. Big luggages with family and children could be a problem. Well, we used the sled to push our luggages and of course it's not enjoyable for a holiday. I thought we would have photography services in our activities but we did not have any. Staffs are friendly and helpful, they helped to pack our breakfast before breakfast time before we check-out early on our check-out day. Activities with the crew went well too, except no photography services as mentioned. We only took photos using our own phones.
You feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but it’s not too far to walk into the town of Saariselkä. The resort is all about customer service, the experience, the activities, etc., and it’s all top-notch. The one thing they can’t control is the weather or the appearance of the northern lights. We were there for five nights, and the first three days were overcast and often had light mixed precipitation. When the weather cleared, we saw how beautiful the area truly is. Friends of ours joined us at the resort; we left our grown children at home. Activities included snowshoeing (2x), a reindeer sleigh ride, snowmobiling (2x) where we switched drivers, husky mushing where we again switched drivers, a Santa activity which was surprisingly fun for adults, ice fishing, a visit to the Siida Museum, and aurora hunts every single night. It was full-on activities interspersed with excellent meals in the on-site restaurant. The guides were incredible, knowledgeable, helpful and fun. We finally saw the lights on our last night, and they were absolutely incredible. The resort provided warm/waterproof coveralls, socks, mittens, balaclavas and boots as needed - they were very careful that everyone was appropriately outfitted before we departed on each excursion. The Aurora cabins were clean, well appointed, had heated floors and a small refrigerator. Sleds were provided to move your luggage from Reception to your assigned cabin. This was, hands down, one of the best vacations of my life. Seeing the lights was the topping on the cake, and it was a delicious cake!
