Novum Hotel Excelsior Dortmund

Location is great but that's it. Despite the horrible interior, the service was not good. There was no soap or shower gel in the room. We asked twice for it, it was never refilled. Walls are super thin, so you heard every single word of your neighbors. I got a good deal through Hotwire so it was ok for one night. Would never pay the 70€ the hotel was charging that night.

The only impressive thing about this hotel is the lobby. Otherwise it's noisy, the rooms are tiny, the heating is sporadic at best, stacks of old broken furniture in the hallways stained carpets, terrible wi-fi in my room. Breakfast early here as they rarely replenish anything that's run out. This Hotel is unique in that if you complain or ask for service they smile and do nothing. No soundproofing at all, the man in the next room snored and it shook the glasses on the tray in my room. One saving grace is that this place is close to shopping and restaurants.

The hotel cancelled my booking at less than 24 hours notice despite the booking being made months in advance. It was for a family room to see a Dortmund match with my family so I was forced into booking a replacement at triple the cost. I was sent a brief note citing water damage in the hotel, however, when I rang reception to see if alternate arrangements could be made, the person knew nothing of water damage. A follow up email then recommended that I no longer use flexible rate bookings on booking.com to avoid this issue so it suggests I was price gouged. Deeply disappointing and unprofessional not to offer some form of compensation or assistance in securing an alternate booking. I won't be back and advise others to avoid.
