Our stay at Ocean Blue & Sand Resort was nothing short of amazing! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and welcoming staff who truly went above and beyond throughout our trip. The resort is beautifully maintained – lush gardens, clean walkways, and a well-kept beach that made relaxing so easy. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable, with a great view and everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. Housekeeping was consistent and friendly, always keeping things fresh. We especially loved the pool area and the variety of restaurants – there was always something tasty and different to try! What really made the experience unforgettable was the staff. Everyone was attentive, upbeat, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great time. Whether it was at the buffet, by the pool, or during the evening entertainment, the service was top-notch. We can’t wait to come back – highly recommended for anyone looking for a fun, easy, and relaxing vacation in the Dominican Republic
We (two adults, two teens) stayed at the Ocean Blue and Sand from Aug 4-11, 2025. Overall the resort was very clean and staff (for the most part) were quite friendly. Food at the buffet restaurant was decent. There was always a lot of variety and we were all able to find something we liked at each meal. Food at the specialty restaurants was also good. Pools were clean and refreshing. There was way too much seaweed at the ocean so we weren't able to get in the water there. Some issues, mostly associated with the 'Privilege' aspect of the resort: 1. The room we were given had a sofa bed. We ended up having to ask three times, over multiple hours, for it to be made up. 2. Upon telling the staff the next morning that the sofa bed wasn't overly comfortable, we were told they could bring a mattress cover that should help. No one ever ended up bringing it to us. 3. We asked our butler for an extra robe and slippers. They never showed up. 4. We were told that our butler could help with making reservations for the restaurants. When we still weren't able to connect with him by mid-afternoon (despite him telling us multiple times that he would be available) we ended up making our own reservations through the hotel app. 5. One of the 'Privilege' benefits is that we were to receive a welcome gift. We discovered that this gift was only actually given for those who attended a separate vacation information session that involved having breakfast with a staff member and attending a 1-hour presentation. This is a decent resort but we were frustrated with the lack of actual 'privilege' benefits that we ended up being able to benefit from. We were happy that most of the trip was paid for by westjet points. If we had paid for the whole trip with money rather than points we would have been quite disappointed. If you're going here, don't waste your money on going 'Privilege'.
Resort Review (August 10–17 Stay) My boyfriend and I stayed at this resort for the first time from August 10–17, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing overall. We arrived at 11:30am, knowing check-in wasn’t until later, but our room wasn’t ready until 3:30pm on the dot—no flexibility at all. When we finally got to our room, we were given two beds instead of one. After requesting a change, we were moved, but the rooms themselves were extremely outdated (a 4/10 at best). The first room had a terrible smell, and the overall cleanliness was questionable. There’s even a card saying you can place it on the bed if you’d like fresh sheets daily. We marked our sheets to test this, and they were never changed during our entire week’s stay. The dining options were another huge letdown. Route 66, in particular, was awful—the food was poorly cooked, with deep-fried pickles coming out brown on the inside. Most of the food and even the milkshakes were left untouched by guests. The Mexican restaurant wasn’t any better; after one bite, we left and went straight to the buffet. The buffet was somewhat decent option, but overall, food quality was extremely poor. Booking la carte restaurants was also frustrating. You have to book online, but the system is terrible—it’s nearly impossible to get a spot. We eventually managed to book the steakhouse and the Japanese hibachi restaurant, and thankfully, those were actually good (I’d rate them about 8/10). But the hassle of securing a reservation made it hardly worth the effort. Staff friendliness was hit or miss. A handful of bartenders were nice, but in general, staff were not welcoming. Communication was very difficult, as almost no one spoke English, which made even simple requests for food or drinks challenging. On top of that, staff constantly asked for tips. The beach, which we were looking forward to, was unappealing. The smell of seaweed was overwhelming, and even though they had tractors cleaning it twice a day, the entire strip was covered. It was so bad that nobody was in the ocean. Since we aren’t pool people, this was especially disappointing, but we ended up at the pool all week because the beach was simply unbearable. Entertainment was almost nonexistent. There are no real nightly shows, only “bingo on your phone.” They had a fire show scheduled, but it was so unorganized that we couldn’t even see it properly. The only positives I can give this resort are that the beach itself was large, and the steakhouse and hibachi restaurants were enjoyable once we finally got in. However, everything else—from the rooms, food, service, and activities—was a letdown. We were very sad to spend our week this way, and we would not return or recommend this resort. Rating: 2/10 overall
