Celia & Richard were both very welcoming as was Celia’s 97 year old mother. Couldn’t do enough for us and even offered to give us a lift to a nearby town when we failed to get a taxi. The cottage was quirky, had all the enmities you required to be self contained and the views from the hot tub are lovely. Our dog was made to feel welcome ( even made a friend with Monty I think his name was, the owners dog ) Once Richard took time out to explain the game of snooker we enjoyed that ( not that we played very well ) and had a few refreshments in the well stocked honesty bar. Overall our experience was relaxing and peaceful with beautiful scenery and walks.

Magical….I recently revisited Craigadam Country House, nestled in the serene Scottish countryside of Dumfries & Galloway, and was thrilled to find that it's just as enchanting as I remembered from visits when I was a boy. This time, I had the pleasure of sharing the experience with my family over the New Year, and it was nothing short of magical. Celia and Richard, the hosts, embody the warm, welcoming spirit of Scotland. Their greeting felt like coming home, and their genuine care for their guests made our stay even more memorable. The dog-friendly policy was a delightful bonus, allowing our furry family member to enjoy the holiday as much as we did. The food? The smoked salmon!! Simply glorious. Every meal was a feast for the senses, showcasing local flavors with a touch of creativity that only a family-run establishment can master. But it's not just about the food; it's the atmosphere. The laughter shared over drinks, the stories told by the fireplace, the history! All contributed to an unforgettable, Scottish experience. A special shout-out must go to the Pickup family, whose presence adds to the charm and conviviality of Craigadam. Their involvement makes you feel like you're part of a larger family gathering rather than just another guest. If you're looking for a place where the warmth of Scottish hospitality shines through, where every detail is taken care of with love, and where you can truly unwind, Craigadam Country House is the place. Very disappointing stay in the lodge, our first impression off the owner was her saying “them dogs won’t be all over my furniture will they” in a very rude manner. Disappointing Stay - Misleading and Uncomfortable We had high expectations for our stay based on the information in the booklet and prior communication, but unfortunately, our experience was far from what we were promised. Lack of Basic Hospitality: Despite what the information booklet says, we were never asked about our breakfast preferences. Rude Attitude Toward Our Pets: The owner was dismissive and forceful about our dogs, making comments like, “they aren’t going to be all over the furniture, are they?” instead of asking politely. The property claims to be dog-friendly, but the owner insisted that we lock our pets in the living room and away from the bedrooms. And keep the dogs on the leads in what was suppose to be our own back garden Privacy Issues: The shower next to the kitchen had no curtains, leaving us with no privacy, especially given the open window and winter weather. Additionally, there were not enough curtains around the property, leaving us exposed with floor-to-ceiling windows and doors. Unmet Amenities: The info book mentions heated blankets in every room, yet only one room had a blanket, and it didn’t work. Safety Concerns: The courtyard outside the front door was dangerously icy, with no grit put down for safety. The hot tub was far from the property, and there were no working lights around it, making it hazardous to navigate at night. Unclean and Unsafe Conditions: The oven wasn’t clean and produced smoke when we used it, and the floors in the bathrooms were hazardous without mats. The property also had dead bugs and spider webs hanging from the ceiling, along with dust everywhere. Invasive and Unwelcoming Owner: The owner entered the property uninvited while we were there, which made us feel uncomfortable. On the day of our departure, she again forced herself into the property, instead of simply speaking to us at the door. Misleading Property Photos: The pictures on the booking site are very misleading and do not reflect the actual condition or layout of the property. Poor Maintenance: Couches were broken and held together with curtain pullbacks, and there were no proper shower curtains to prevent water from pooling on the floor. Additionally, Wi-Fi was unreliable and the kitchen lacked basic utensils. Overall, this stay was far below expectations, and we feel misled by both the property’s description and our interactions with the owner. We do not recommend this property, especially for those traveling with pets or looking for privacy, cleanliness, or safety. Avoid at all cost don’t waste your money
